Weather in New York in November?
Me and the better half are going to stay in New York (well New Jersey) for 5 days towards the end of November.
What's the weather going to be like? I know it can get very cold out there, but not sure when the really cold period starts from.
Just need to know if I need to start shopping around for warm stuff

I've been there twice in November and it was pretty cold both times. Below zero at night and barely above zero during the day, but nice and sunny.
You could always buy some warm stuff when you get there, and save yourself a bit of money. I went to an outlet village called 'Woodbury Common' just outside NYC (Jersey side) and the prices were ridiculously cheap. Most of the big hotels should be able to let you know how to get there, the Roosevelt where I stayed ran a minibus there daily.
I got some big timberland boots for about £30 and a North Face jacket for about £40, both about 25% of what they cost in the UK at the time. Also picked up a Seiko Kinetic watch there for £220 when the same model was £399 in the UK.

Quite nippy then!
Think there are also some oulet shops in Secaucus near where we are staying. What we save from being in a hotel outside New York, we, or rather the other half will spend shopping!

I have been there for the last 2 years in nov/dec.
nov/dec 03 was bloody freezing, needed coat scarf hat thermals etc
last year was a lot warmer, on thanksgiving day i was in central park in a t shirt it was that warm.
when are you going?
24th nov is thanksgiving day, most places are closed for the day, huge parade in the morning
25th is called black friday, and that is when all the sales start, the morning macys etc open 6am for sales, upto 20% extra on sale stuff, vouchers can be found in the papers too.
Woodbury common is worth going to, buses from port authority straight there. times on websites if you look. but you will miss most of a day going there.
pm me if need more info.

The parade is on in the morning all the way down broadway from about 9am, you can also see the huge balloons blown up the night before on the est side of the park outside the museum. The ice skating rinks will be open then at central park and at the roccefeller centre and the tree will be up at the roccefeller centre too, but not lit until the weds after thanksgiving.

New York weather can vary greatly from year to year.
Take last year for example - I was there in November. I was staying the Waldorf in Manhattan
During the day it was sunny & warm enough for a fleece / jumper and jeans.
At night, a good coat would be a recommendation.

Stayed in the Plaza overlooking Central Park, exellent.
