If the frames steel, what about nitromors? I did on my old steel frame. If its an alloy, find your local bead blaster in the yellow pages. Shouldn't cost alot.

You can get paint stripper for plastics so you should be able to get one safe enough for alloy (if it is alloy). If the paintwork isn't that bad you don't need to take it all off as it's just causing you more work really.

I did it with mine years ago, but we had an MEK tank at work.

Nirtomoors should eat it, does it react with alloy then?

Nitromoors will be fine on steel i still found myself having to alot more work after with the wire brush i personally now would get it blasted much easier. If there is any rust make sure you use a product like Krust on it first or after 6 months all the rust spots will start showing through.

Be careful with the sandblasting option, the majority of older steel framed bikes were brazed, not welded, a coarse grit under high pressure may well weaken the brazing alloy Finding someone who can low-pressure glass bead blast it for you would be a better bet, you'll get a smoother finish for painting too

Nitromors and some scotch pads do the trick. It doesn't matter if its alloy or steel. As long as it aint carbon you're all groovy! Use a paint brush to daub the nitromors on with and then leave for a minute before using the scourer to get off. You can also use pallet knifes and the like to scrape stubborn bits off and those bits on the flat. You're best working on a small area at a time. Hope that helps.

As long as the person blasting it knows what he is doing it should'nt be an issue really. They'd know to use a fine sand rather than copper slag.

I couldn't agree more, you'll get a much better finish which will last a hell of a lot longer.

A good place is argos cycles. www.argoscycles.co.uk or .com, I can never remember. It's stove baked enamel finish which is pretty tough.
