Sky+ 'buffer'

Sky+ 'buffer'
Am I right in thinking Sky+ can add upto 60 mins to the start of a programme by simply using the rewind button? It doesn't work on mine, although I'm sure it has in the past but I can't figure out what and how to do this.I have it set to 30 mins in settings, but nowt happens.Any clues?

If you have it set to 30 mins, you can rewind 30 mins of what you've been watching. You can't change channel and rewind it though, it only stores what you're watching. Change channel and you lose the buffer.

you could if the sky box had been on that channel and therefore "watching it" despite the TV screen being off.
as there are 100+ channels its asking a bit much for the box to watch everyone and store it just in case you decide to switch to it and want to rewind! - you would need 100 feeds from your dish and a BIG hard drive!

its a daft feature anyway. the only point of sky plus is that you can select what shows you want to watch - set up the box and then when you sit down to watch TV they are there for you. I have 3 or 4 shows a week i watch -when i have some TV time i will watch them with no adds in the way.
if you need to go surfing then rewinding what you stummble on then just get out more!
its as bad as those that upgrade the hard drive size!!! get a life not more TV!

If you are watching something and decide half way through you want to record the whole program. Press pause and then the select button and you will be asked if you want to save the program.
Press record and the program will be saved to the planner.
Handy if something comes on that you would like to show someone else or if you come in late, turn on the TV and you have missed the start. Obviously it only works if the Sky+ box has been buffering the program from the start.
On the Gadget show they had the latest recorder from Japan, massive hard drive and processor. Records upto 4 high definition channels at a time and stores the entire bitstream from the satallite for the last 24 hours. That's a 120 channel 24 hour buffer.
They estimate we are 6 to 7 years behind in sat recording technology and still no sure sign of HDTV.

TBH, I'm sure that at some point in the next 6-7 years TV will become on demand. You simply sit down, and select what you would like to watch. Not what channel, just what program. This is then delivered to you. TV over IP I think its called. Its not working well yet, but it would be great if it does

I hear that sky are testing a system that will recored prgrams but do away with Adverts. Crazy you may say.... They will loose the advertising revenue. But Sky apparently say they subscription out ways the adverts ???????
