Well, for a start, don't go into Stoke(-on-Trent) as there isn't really much there.
Hanley has the most pubs / bars / clubs. All the usual chains.
Newcastle-under-Lyme is another option and ten minutes from Hanley. Loads of bars to pick from.
Stone is a bit further away but a popular place.

Turbohot - Nah, that was me taking my girlie out in Chester. I'm keeping her at home this weekend so you rest easy now
Not sure about pubs in Stoke, plenty of rough ones around though to avoid. Make sure you have some oatcakes though, filled with whatever you fancy. Mmmmmm.

Hanley's good if you enjoy a lil' argy bargy, plenty of young lads who can't take their ale, probably like most bigger towns and cities around. Plenty of pubs though.
Newcastle is more of a singles night out on friday, plenty of younger people out in groups, not as much hassle as in Hanley.
I suppose it depends on your' taste in music as to where you frequent, if you're into clubbing then go hanley, if it's a drink and a late one then I'd prefer Newcastle.
It's all down to personal choice and there's better parking in Newcastle too.
Si.
ps:both are great if you're out with the lads, ST1 already mentioned and totty galore in both towns....
