I was just thinking that!! How can their be ANYTHING positive about their actions, other than the fact they kill themselves?

Probably wont make the Evening News - unless one of them was British.

A gathering of 2 million people in Iraq is surely not a great Idea - Even if you were burying God's successor.

It was clearly intended to foment sectarian tensions, the BBC's John Brain in Baghdad says.
This is what is being referred too. Nothing to do with defending against 'invaders'. Good to see the BBC doing their bit to stir things up. It's almost as if the media are willing a civil war to start. Makes better headlines I suppose than "All is quiet in Iraq and everybody is doing their best to live in peace"

It's the most dangerous city on the planet and yet hundreds of people still gather in an open area. Sorry, but that's just asking for trouble.

It's shocking news and my heart goes out to those that died, but for God's sake poeple over there need to show some common sense until their security can be guaranteed.

Its a bit like using the Underground in sheer defiance after the explosions Ozzy.

Its a terrible tragedy and the blame for all this unrest and murder has to be at the feet of those who started it all by illegally invading the country.

Cool

President Bush and Rumsfeld are sitting in a bar.
A guy walks in and asks the bartender, "Isn't that Bush and Rumsfeld sitting over there?"
The bartender says, "Yep, that's them."
So the guy walks over and says, "Wow, this is a real honor! What are you guys doing
in here?"
Bush says, "We're planning WW III."
And the guy says, "Really? What's going to happen?"
Bush says, "Well, we're going to kill 140 million Muslims and one blonde with big ****."

The guy exclaimed, "A blonde with big ****? Why kill a blonde with big ****?"

Bush turns to Rumsfeld and says, "See, I told you no one CARES about the 140 million Muslims".

Sorry, but no it's not.

We have decent security in the UK and we don't have '00's getting killed every day. We've had two days of incidents, so the risk is far less.

You could argue that the Iraqi's are brave and showing defiance, but since the terrorists have a free run out there it just shouts stupidity to me. It's an open target IMHO.

Since everyday has some incident it only takes a rumour of an attack to send widespread panic throughout the place.

Moses if you *really* think that the bombers are "defending" their people you must have a really bizare viewpoint. If all attacks were aimed at just the americans (or even american sponsored Iraqi institutions) that would be believable. But innocent iraqi civilians are regularly being targeted and killed by these people.

very odd way to defend them.

They are after power and their own politcial gain. nothing more noble. Time you woke up to that.

(and before you spout bollox about agreeing to ignore - that was you, not me.)

I agree that it is unwise Stefan, and I think I would probably avoid that kind of problem myself. I did not say it was a good idea to lay yourself open to that kind of situation. But the attitude of defiance would be the same as this country showed towards Hitler during WW2. Why the hell should we let him and his bombing raids dominate our lives? That was the spirit that went so far towards defeating them eventually in spite of the terrible odds against us at times.

It only takes so much pushing by the other side to start a "don't care any more" type of attitude in return.

Yeah, I totally agree we should stand up to them but doing so in the open air when it's gauranteed to be attack is just plain daft. I mean would you have taken your family along to downtown Baghdad ??

It's fine you going along, but taking your family? Defiance or not, I wouldn't have taken kids along to that celebration yesterday in a million years. That's what I mean by 'common sense'.

There's a time and a place to show defiance and solidarity.

Worth remembering that there was mass evacuations of children to the countryside etc....packed off with their gas masks to stay with strange families.

So I suppose our lifes were effectively dominated and radically changed.

I don't disagree with you Stefan.

Sipie,

Not completely sure what your point is. Yes of course children were evacuated for their own safety and quite rightly so. It would have been quite a disturbance to them but better that than being killed. I certainly would not have been happy for my children to have to risk the terrible bombing raids during WW2.

Did not prevent the spirit of team work and helping others which was prevalent during those days though.
