Default Anyone received a speeding fine from another European country?...

Recently got back from a roadtrip around Europe, and in France there were a fair few of these little grey radar boxes at the side of the road which are pretty hard to spot - and also my mate seems to think he may have been 'flashed' by some sort of fixed camera in Switzerland

Question is has anyone actually received a speeding fine from somewhere in Europe, taken by a fixed camera? My guess is no?

Hello

I've been stopped by the Police at 2am in the mountains of Poland. I was told when they tell me the fine, that it was too high and then they'd ask how much I would like to pay. Worked as well. $5 in the end!

Doesn't answer your question, sorry.

In the last two trips to the South of France I have been flashed 11 times - none of which I was absolutely flying, most of the time sitting around 90mph on the empty autoroute - always drive down overnight so never get to see them before its too late.

Once this year in France I even got the car reg on an overhead gantry tell me to slow down but never any ticket.

Thats good to know We generally stuck to 85-95 most of the way down through France, and didnt see a single Police car on the autoroutes!

Got flashed a couple of times in France, and once in Switzerland in June on motorways - not heard anything.

Each time we were doing between 80 - 90mph.....must learn to keep to the speed limit!

Recent article in the paper

There is a company in the UK that takes a % out of fines recovered on behalf of other EEC countries. They use clever wording (& the support of the DVLA) to try & obtain the money. They have no legal standing in this country & you can refuse to pay with no consequences.

It is in discussion in the European Parliament

I lived in France for six months and got flashed a couple of times going towards cameras. I had no GB sticker on the front of my car and have never heard a thing. Once was doing 130kmph in a 90. I hadn't seen the sign as I was to busy trying to avoid being mauled by a lorry who was weaving about. I don't know if it's the right attitude but I regularly drove at a speed I felt comfortable with i.e. 15mph above the limit, as the roads were good with not much traffic and no cops.

I have german plates on my car so do not worry about it when I come to the UK but I got flashed in Belgium a few years ago and 8 months later received a fine which I promptly recycled in the appropriate manner and never heard anything since. However if I get flashed in Austria or Switzerland they have an agreement and access to the German computer and I can be fined, if I do not pay the Germans persue it and prosecute me.

Also if you get stopped by the police in a foreign country you will be fined on the spot as they know there is no way you will pay once you are allowed to drive off.

I heard that there is a bill of cooperation going through that will give all untries in the EU the right to fine and give points to any car from a member country. Not sure when this will become law though.
