I posted a similar question but for Thailand. In the end I ordered £££ travel cheques in £50 and £100 cheques and £50's worth of local. Have a good trip. Don't forget the pith helmet!! dl

Hello

I took a mixture of US Dollars and Pounds, just in cash. You will also find that there are cash machines all over in KL.

I had a great time in Borneo, in both Sarawak and Sabah. Climbed a mountain, really nice hotels by the sea, saw orangutans, and stayed in a longhouse (not my idea of fun, full of massive spiders).

You will get a better exchange rate with GB Pound notes than t.cheques. Plenty of money changers around. Hotels as usual give a poor rate.

I payed where I could on the old flexible enemy, same as I do most other places as you tend to get a good exchange rate. Otherwise American Express travellers cheques in Sterling did nicely but as Molbyman said, don't change them at your hotel.

Just got back from KL and Borneo (KK) last weekend, where you staying ?

We took Ringits and regretted it, the exchange rate was much better over there. As has been said avoid the Hotels and use changers in the malls. Personally I would take Sterling and change what you need. If you run out of cash use the plastic.

Make sure the Petronas towers are on your list of things to do, you need to get there early to q for a tour ticket for the sky bridge, well worth the effort. Also make sure you see it at night...breathtaking. Another mall to go to is Times Square, there’s a full blown theme park on the 10th floor.

If your going for the shopping, take an empty suitcase or buy one there.
