The Purple Headed Mountain...
...OK, getting married in 3 weeks time and the bride-to-be has suggested 'all things bright and beautiful' as one of the hymns. So reading through the verses I notice the offending lyric? Anyone shed any light on it to stop me getting schoolboy giggles on the big day?

Yes, of course. The heads or peaks of British (read "Scottish" ) mountains look purple because of the heather. That's all. You never seen a mountain, boy?

Ah-ha...
For those of us old enough to remember the first series of 'Spitting Image', there was a classic sketch where Mary Whitehouse took the Rt. Rev. Donald Runcie (the then incumbent Archbishop of Canterbury) to task over the lyrics in 'All Things Bright & Beautiful'.
Wonderful stuff.
Cheers
