Default Texas Hold Em Question....Maybe Tiggs can help or others?

I'm a little confused to how the blinds work in the first round of betting. Watched late night poker last night but couldn't quite see the table when I needed to work this out.

Will try and explain clearly as possible.

Player 1 - Dealer
Player 2 - Small Blind
Player 3 - Big Blind
Player 4 - First to bet
Player 5
Player 6

lets say the small blind is 5 & big blind is 10, player 4 starts and calls the bet (for 10 as that is the big blind) so do players 5,6 & 1. First question is:

When the bet reaches Player 2 does he just has to put 5 in to call the bet? or is his initial blind not included and he has to put 10 in to call?

If the bet is still 10 to call after player 1 does player 2 not have to put anymore in and qualifies for the flop?

Hope this makes sense.

cheers

P.s Do have one more question to ask if we can sort this one - thanks.

Player 2 would have to put in 5 to see the flop, (his original 5 is a forced bet to get money into the pot and is included) he could otherwise fold or raise, if all players had just called the 10 then player 3 would have the choice of checking to see the flop, or could raise.

Cheers matey - thats what I thought.

2nd question if you have time

When the flop isshown if player 4 raised to 50, players 5 & 6 folded, player 1 raises to 100 players 2 & 3 fold. Does player 4 then have to put another 50 to call the bet?
ie. all players have to have an even stake in the pot before the turn card can be shown?

thanks

P.s May have one final question

Yep you got it, player 4 in this case would have 3 options, he could fold, he could call the bet he could re-raise. This is where the skill/stratergy comes into play.

Next question.....

good to see were playing correctly - especially as I have won the last 3 weeks

what levels do you start the blinds at at how long before you increase them and what amounts?

We play with about $2500 worth of chips and normally start game 7ish and want to be finished by 11pm.

Appreciate the advice.

In online games they generally start at 15/30 and roughly double every 10 hands up to a maximun of 500/1000, in bigger tournaments its usually by time, say every 10 or 20 mins. If you playing at home you can do what every suits really, all depends on how many players you got.
If you increase every 10 hands and the blinds go 15/30, 30/60, 50/100, 100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/100 you cant go wrong.

The only exception to the betting rule mentioned earlier is if there are for instance 3 players left and the first player only has say 50 chips left, if the other 2 players have more and wish to raise the betting this then forms a side pot which if the player who has no chips lefts ends up winning does not get these and they go back to the other players who put chips into into. Hope ths makes sense!

yeah pretty ok by sides pots (thank god)

If out of the 3 people left, the one that only has 50 left has to put in the small blind of 500 what normally happens? I thought he was out if he couldn't meet the blind but the others I play with thought that he puts his 50 in then the big blind is only 100 for that hand.

He would put in his 50 as small blind, the big would put his in and all of this except 50 would become side pot. So they most the guy with 50 chips can win off each person is 50 chips. With the blinds that big he would need to double up a fair few times to get back in it, in all honesty very unlikely.
