travel a bit in south east and have stayed in all the Hotels above and replies above - on balance no real complaints on any of them.

Best? Thistle usually good quality - Holiday Inn Express - close the door and you coud be anywhere in the UK - Corporate image of the first order but always clean and good quality, downside is they only serve a buffet breakfast ( in price ), no evening meals or lunch, and limited bar. Whilst you will not find a heart attack on a plate aka "Fulll English Breakfast" good selection and self service eat as much as you like so good fill up oppourtunity and a bit healthy!

But as with all Hotels Website looks fine but if at end of refurb cycle could be a little "tat" in places but as I say no real problems with any of the above.

Why a chain hotel, there are much, much better hotels , pubs etc than chain hotels.

Menzies hotels, thistle etc as mentioned above.

Where abouts in the South East? There may be a really nice stand alone hotel that could be reccommended.

Whats the budget you are aiming towards?

Agree and have sourced some really nice, no excellent, private, pub places to stay in - on the other hand some really nice looking private ones which were a disaster eg in shower " whats thats burning smell? must be dust on towel rail burning off - oh should smoke be coming out of shower unit? - water and the now firework display of sparks coming out not the best comb?" Exit shower stage left at speed - to find myself naked with smoke alarms going off, and snowing outside! owner as laid back as if I had reported no loo rolls in the toilet!

Advantage of chains is there is a certain mimimum standard operating and with the others unless known to you or reccommendation certain "hit and miss" element in operation - and I do have a list of misses not as funny as the DIY electrocution story - not having a pop at chip - as ever we all speak as we find

Maybe seaside town somewhere like Eastbourne, Thanks for all the help so far and trawling through all of the sites at the moment.

I have stayed in some independents and to be honest I would rather support the small guy/company but nearly every one I have been to has been a disaster. I only really need some where to lay my head so I dont really see the point of paying £100 per night. As long as clean, everything works and its quiet I will be happy.

Fair enough. Out of all the chain hotels, and Ive stayed in the all I think the one with the best and most consistent standards has to be the Travel Inn.
