West Caribbean Airways aircraft flying between Panama and Martinica. Crew reported engine trouble.
A quick search suggests that the aircraft is likely to be either a MD-81 or MD-82. Not a good week for air travel

Great. Another opportunity for the online experts to wildly speculate as to the cause of the accident without little or no knowledge about aviation.

According to BBC, ATC lost communication after the pilots reported engine problems.
Speculate on that

That's two crashes on almost opposite sides of the world. Accidents happen I'm afraid, but the chances of your plane crashing are still incredibly small.
If you chose to sit inside a 500mph aluminium tube @ 33,000 ft there's bound to be some risk involved.
How many car crashes do you reckon has happened throughout the world in the past 48hrs? I'd be more worried about driving home from work tonight if I were you.

Bet the families of the poor people who died a laughing their asses of at that one!
IMHO - SN alway has been a place for speculation by those in the know and people who do not, nothing much wrong with that just the same comments and converstions going on as in offices pubs and clubs alll over the place just not face to face.
I chose not to express an opinion on why on this or the Helios plane which came down as i did not have enough info or knowlegde to do so. Don't read it if you do not like it are my thoughts and a slong as it does not libel or cause offence then so be it.
