toddler friendly gas hob??
Quick question.
I have just purchased a flat and part of the work I am having done includes the installation of a new kitchen.
Unfortunately due to problems with the current wireing in the flat, I can only have one 30amp appliance in the kitchen... the oven. This means I can only have a gas hob and not a ceramic/induction hob which would be safer with a little one running around.
I've done a little research and lots of gas hobs have safey features, but just to check I asked NEFF customer support.
I asked about flame failure...
If your boy accidently turns on the gas it will turn off in 5 seconds.
Fantastic, I thought
Next question, ok but some hobs have one touch ignition what is that about.
When you turn the dial it automatically presses down and ignites.
Ok, so if my boy turns on the dial it will light and the flame failure will not cut off the gas as you said before...
Yes that's right.
(looking at my catalogue) what about these three models of hob, x, y and z... they all say they have child locks
That is a mistake, they don't.
He then went on the say that I'm over analyzing and that I should not worry so much, your kid is more likely to burn himself on a radiator. Radiators are hotter than hobs etc etc.
Anyhow, basically the guy did not help at all. Does anyone have any suggestions? There must be gas hobs out there that can't be turned on accidently. My wife and I will never allow the little guy to run amuck in the kitchen by himself, but I would really like to have that extra piece of mind.
He constantly amazes me with new things he is able to do, I can make everything as safe as possible, but I think it is best to stay about seven steps ahead of the competition.
Thanks in advance!

How tall is your toddler Surely a toddler can't reach a gas hob dial / button ?
Ours requires the gas to be turned on and then the spark to be struck. I can't see a toddler reaching the ***** on ours.
I'd be more worried about them pulling hot pans off.

As soon as they are big enough to reach the **** they are big enough to learn that if they do they are in big trouble with you.
My kids not 2 yet but knows if he goes near the oven he's gonna be sat on the bottom of the stairs for some time!
2 others are oler and never went near the cooker....same applies to TV, video, PC's, home office, etc...if the dogs know where they are allowed im sure the kids can get the idea!

ps- gas is safer than electric becuase any kid can see the very obvious flame with gas.
