Google Earth vs Nasa World Wind?
Do these 2 programs use the same data for the images, or are they unique? If unique is any one better than the other?

They don't seem to use the same data. I prefer Google Earth as it seems to have more areas of High Resolution worldwide. Worldwind concentrates on the USA a bit too much. All in IMHO

I prefer World Wind for some things but for the most part it uses, from what i can gather, the Landsat7 images which give about 15m per pixel resolution. The Google seems to use a combination of some format of Landsat images plus higher resolution images of some parts of the earth.
I prefer the way WW deals with elevation and often use it as an "visualisation" system for remote areas i might want to walk to. It can give me a good idea of the best route and the visual impact sometimes helps pick out things i might miss on the OS map.
So i prefer WW but for most people the additional hi res images in Goggle might be the main factor. It is worth noting that for England and Wales Multimap has almost complete aerial photo coverage which might be handy for some applications.
