Jeez, no one at antenatal classes said it would take this long

Had contractions from 5am on Thursday, thought we were in for sure on Thurs night but they were only every 10 mins, then Friday night they started to get down to 3-4 mins apart & really strong so we had a quick shower and was jumping in the car only to find they began to subdue back to 10 mins apart

The midwife says they will send us home if we turn up at hosp & shes not in established labour, poor girl is knackered so was advised to sleep between contractions which in bloke terms would be the equivalent of trying to get 40 winks while having your genitals attached to electrodes on a 10 min timeswitch (not that I have tried)

Was wondering if you can order Defi gauges to measure cervix dialation ? or maybe a Knocklink add-on to see if the contractions were too strong. Have not had such a small amount of sleep since all nighter clubbing sessions a few years back YAWN.

Wish us luck for a healty baby - any top scoobynet labour tips ?

Seriously, doesn the midwife know how long this has been going on? Has your wife had the baby monitored to make sure it's not getting stressed? Hope it's over soon for you

Don't mean to scare you but has the baby been monitored in the last couple of days? It could be in distress.

If the answer is no I would take your missus down the hospital pronto and be polite but firm in your request for someone to take a look-see. Don't take no for an answer.

Baby is wriggling around - seems healty enough especially as they say a moving baby is a happy baby. We had it on a heartbeat monitor on Thurs afternoon and all was perfect, I reckon she likes it too much inside her mums belly, looks like an alien is in there at the moment, cue Sigourney Weaver with a pulse rifle !!

What sort of pain relief is she planning? I had a very long pre-labour and the midwife at the hospital said if I didn't get any sleep I wouldn't be able to push when the baby came. I had an epidural, got a good night's sleep and Frank arrived the following morning.

I suggest you inform the midwife of the lack of sleep and the length of time it has been going on.

Thanks - shes using a boots tens machine which is excellent pain relief and a few paracetamol when required. Shes asleap on the bed now which is cool and still has energy as I have been feeding her up regularly.

Have spoken to a couple of the midwifes in the maternity ward this morning and they are both very supportive and say all is perfectly normal, there is no panick here just getting a bit tired really, we are all in agreement that for the moment shes best at home in a comfortable environment.

My mum was in labour with me for 72 hours (there's a good reason why they call it labour) - hope all is well and mother and child are okay - updates?

Is it the first child 'cause if so the labour usually takes longer (my younger sister was born in 3 hours)

Definately a girl, have seen the scan 1st baby can take ages but I wont mention the 72 hours to the other 1/2 or she will go crazy

God I had 20 hrs labour the 1st time and I gave up! I demanded ceaserian.Then again,the baby's dad wasnt around and I was 17! My most wonderful mum and family friends were around to support me tho.I couldnt cope.Of course,doc agreed as the situ was crucial.But then,my second one was a planned ceaserian.

If your wife is doing well with it,its better to go for normal birth.Very good luck with it

I was in labour for 4 days. Was 2 weeks overdue, then monday morning they gave me a drug to start things moving, 2 hours later they broke my waters and between us we dragged/pushed him out thursday night. Am convinced he would still be in there if he had the choice. So i feel for your lass, i know exactly what she's going through. It will all be worth it, i promise you. Just be there for her, and when she tells you to bugger off do it, if only for 5 mins. The one thing she wont want to feel is out of control. You'll be fine and all the best

P.s probably best if you dont tell her any of the above until afterwards!

Hope its all over soon Dan, I feel sorry for her having to wait all that long. Bet she will think long and hard before having No 2. Usually a lot easier next time though.

My wife was in "slow " labour for over a week

ended up taking her out for a run in the car and some chips and gravy !!

3 hours later .... SURF'S UP. into hospital for midnight, baby girl at 8.56am
after a vondouse (sp!) thing, not nice at all

both of my wife's labours were 70 hours + both were also 2 weeks late(ish!)

Turned out that after the "speed-up" drugs, in both cases, the babies were in distress (cords around their necks) and ended up with sunroof jobs

The only advice I can give (unless it's all sorted now!), is to do what I did - drag the wife out of the labour ward and walk about 1000yrds to Kentucky, have a meal, then go another 500 yrds to Safeway and have a shop!!!

Best of luck with it - it is worth it in the end

Clarebabes - I wish !!!

Shes had a bit of sleep around lunchtime and some food so her energy level has risen to the point where she's smiling a bit and released the deathgrip on my arm but the contractions are coming back in force

59 hours & counting, however I don't want to get the record - Dan 70+ hours must have been a testing time and right now I know exactly what you two must have gone through ! am praying we don't have complications, watch this space.
