Question Advice - Irish Car In To UK

Ive been looking for a new car (well secondhand) and i think ive found one at the right price, but after making some enquires the car is located in County Tyrone, Ireland
What problems have i got getting the car in to the UK? Will I have to pay Tax or Duty on it ?
Will I be able to put my Personal Plate on to it ?

Thanks in advance

unfortunately u will need to mate coz its fae the south

i got mines from the north still a part of the uk all i did was put my private reg on it and registered it here, they have a different way of registering in northern ireland

what u can do is get maybe a receipt showing a lower price

so u save on tax's or if u have a business u can claim the vat back if u r registered but u cant dodge the duty

Oh right, Thanks for that.
Well as the car is quite a price, I think I will pass on that one then

There is no tax nor duty to pay on a car imported from, and in free-circulation within the EU. You will need to MOT the car if that appropriate, insure it and then take the certificates along with the vehicles documentation to your local VRO. You will have to pay a minimal first registration charge along with six months (minimum) road tax, then youre away.

You will be able to transfer a cherished registration number onto the car after its been registered normally. Unfortunately Moses, you can not reclaim the VAT charged on used cars irrespective of your business status. Its a good job that you know more about religion and politics than you do about HM Customs & Excise, isnt it?

Looks like I know more about importing cars into the UK than I do about geography and the counties of Ulster.....

Moses, since the first of January 1993.

Regards

Simon

Seems so :-)

There are 9 counties in Ulster but only 6 of them are in Northern Ireland. Wouldn't buy a car from any of them mind you.

Hint and tip : If you turn up and it looks like a gypo encampment be especially careful.
