Cannes or Nice?.... which is the nicer place?
Looking at spending a couple of nights in either Cannes or Nice later this month as part of a trip round Europe.
Is anyone familier with both areas? Which would you recommend? Looking for nice bars, good (but not rowdy) nightlife?
Ive not been to either place so dont know which to go for!

TBH I prefer Nice as there is plenty to do. The old town is lovely with some really nice restaurants on the sea front.
Cannes was crap when I was there but it was a little of season to be fair.
If you are there are on friday or sunday go to Ventimiglia (just over the border in Italy) there is a superb market with lots of good quality cashmere & leather products. Also good fakes/stolen designer gear if that is your thing.

btw
In Nice there are two main drinking areas, the old town and commercial district. Take shoes and go to the casino on the front, it used to be nice in there for a drink.

Both are lovely!
Cannes is slightly classier, but a bit more expensive from memory- it also has a sand beach, which nice does not (pebble) if thats important.
In august both are great- but to be honest, that whole area is.
As mentioned above Ventimiglia is great too.
Try st tropez too although there is no stop on the train for it

I agree with Chopper, the last time we were in Cannes 2 of the biggest rats I'd ever seen popped out from behind the rocks My missus nearly died from shock, But if you go into Monte Carlo just a few miles further on the are great bars and Cafe's.
Cheers
