Default O2 phone contract termination?

The missus has changed to Orange, so need to cancel her O2 account. Have had it for about 6 yrs (from when it was Genie), but they don't let you have free upgrades etc.

Someone told me that as I bought a new handset from them in Feb I am stuck to 12month contract from that point.. Does anyone know if this is the case?

What happens if i cancel the direct debit?

If you got a discount on the handset, you're probably tied into 12 months

If you upgraded a handset they tie you in for another 12 - 18 months depending on what deal she opted for.

Also, to cancel, you have to do it in writing (make sure you do this registered delivery), then they will send you a final bill....

If you cancel the DD I am pretty sure you will keep getting bills sent to your address.

The thing was they charged us £100 for the handset, was only a crappy Samsung thing which is why i think i'm stuck with 12months from then. Wanted to check on here before ringing their extortionate customer services number
