review: Felix da housecat @ Stealth-Nottingham
I was a dedicated clubber in the mid to late 90's.. I did the rounds (as most have )
Last night went to Stealth to check FDHc.. good memories of his sets and choons..
10-6 allnighter.. FDHc set from 4-6 ish..
I must have missed something in the last few years of the clubbing scene whilst I have been out of the loop.. I have NEVER been so fecking claustrophobic on a dancefloor in my life.
Busy to the point of stupid.
Talk about an amtosphere-
yeah sure most were gurning their t1ts off and avin it as you do.. but such an unfriendly vibe I have never felt.
The music was hard as ****.. way beyond 'hard house'.
Which is nice.
Except for when the SAME B-line is played for about a fecking hour
after the millionth time I got elbowed in the head and barged into I was ready to lamp the next one to do it.
Shouldnt be like this.
EVERY fecking piled up muppet in the place were standing facing the DJbox with their bloody phone-cameras out!!!
WTF?
Who gives a f*ck what the DJ is doin- the music is where its at..
but no- everyone is playing 'lets all cram down the front (within 20ft of the Decks) and stand there gawping and taking fecking pictures- barging everyone out the way'
W@nkers.
I tried to continue on by moving nearer the midle- but the crush was getting stupid- no one could actually 'dance' bar doing the on the spot '2step shuffle'..
we moved to the edge- the mrs was enjoying it in a small space at the side of the main monitor- but by that time I had enough.
Plus- I only got asked for pills 3 times.
Maybe I should do the dealer bit as a sideline as everyone seems to think I'm loaded with gear for them
in a nutshell- WTF happened to clubs.
It's become a spectator sport.

dear lord yes
i feel your pain
ive played most big clubs (bar ritzys) all over the uk
i took a break because of impending babyhood and the drugs side of things were getting to me (doing too much)
no doubt i will start playing out again soon but i played the last gig sober and free of drugs!!!
i was shocked at how different everything was
im a good technical dj , hell im just a good dj and i shuddered when some pilled up nutter sweating like oj simpson on a retrial tried to hug me soaking my commes de garcon shirt!!!!
although i love the music i have no desire to get back into the drug culture now
never say never but i have a huge landscaped garden with built in bbq and sweet lawns with a massive conservotory with a good dj set up inside
i have friends over from time to time and spin but i hate the late nights and inevitable drug stuff
anyway
tuneage to look out for
sammy rockstar

I can understand why people perceive drug taking as being synonymous with dance music, but I refuse to consider it as an inevitability - it's a pathetic excuse.
I am a big follower of the (progressive) trance genre, and have made the trip to Ibiza, yet in all the time I've followed the music, not once have I been slightly tempted by drugs, and nor, I can safely say, will I ever be.

The way I see it, anyone can go to a rave take x amount of pills and have a blinder, but when you can honestly say you enjoy yourself without the need for illegals then you've got a real love for the music

Enough handbags
It would be safe to assume there are people well into their tunes that do the clubscene and don't do drugs.
It is also safe to assume there are people well into the clubdrugs and frequent the same clubscene, wanting to be 'on one' to enjoy it, hardly the trainspotter type
And of course there are those that are well into their tunes and just like the experience you get from doing drugs from time to time. Its not a case of having lived or not though
However - pissheads, the can't dance won't dance brigade, ritzy alpha male birdpulling attitudes etc in the same clubscene are becoming more common (not that I go out much anymore).

If people feel they need to take drugs to make their life worthwhile, then fair enough, that's their choice, but to say that I've not lived purely because I don't share that same need is nothing short of moronic.

I went to Felix 2 saturdays ago at Shine in Belfast. Hadnt been to Shine in over a year and was really looking forward to it. How dissapointed was I!! Id knocked the whole drugs thing on the head a brave while ago, and havent looked back, but **** me are there some serious ***** going to clubs now. The attitude of some peope amazes me, any wonder people get kickings nowadays!! You mentioned all the people with there phones, I noticed loads of kids using them as glow sticks!!
