Disposal of Shotgun Cartridges.
As above really. Its possible that they've been exposed to dampness and I don't trust them so how do I get rid of them?

DON'T discharge them ! I had a bad experience with some faulty 9mm ammunition which exploded in the breech and nearly took my eye out !
Take them to the police station, safest way.

Your local gunsmith should be able to take care of them..... or if you've got a bit of land, cut them in half through the wadding, remove the half with the shot in and then toss the half with the powder/primer on a bombfire!
Edited to add: I'm not joking either... the powder will just fizzle, the primers will go bang. Stay about 5m away and you'll be perfectly safe.

Cut the shot off, put the cartridge in a 500ml coke bottle so that the lip around the cartridge is sitting on the top of the bottle, make a small hole in the lid, then screw the lid back on and insert a nail into the hole so it just touches the primer then throw into the air and enjoy, used to do it at college, hours of fun to be had!!

My mate used to have a shotgun cart on his fridge at home, couldn't find it for ages & went to make some toast one day & the toaster made rattly noises. Turned it upside down & loads of shot fell out, the cart had actually fallen it & melted inside the toaster I think we were pretty lucky we didn't get hit by bits of flying toaster, god knows how long it'd been in there.

Jesus!!!
Great ideas there!!!
Best bet is to RING the police (don't carry them about if your not sure of their state) and explain you have shotgun ammunition the state of which you are unsure of and ask for an armed response vehicle to attend to make them safe. An ARV should attend and the officers should take the cartridges away in a ballistic bag for safe destruction.
That's how we do it and its the safest all round. Remember you are still in charge of those rounds until taken off you by police and anything dangerous that happens with them is down to you until then!
Chris.

I found some when I was about 10 at the local clay shoot. Me and my mates cut them open and layed trails of gun powder and lit them. Looking back it was quite a stupid thing to do.

Big Bang
If you have enough land (a lot, like a ferm) dig a pit. Put the cartriges in. Put in a couple of jerrycans of petrol. Cover the whole lot with straw/wood. Create a fure. Ignite and retreat to a very safe distance. Enjoy a huge explosion.
You really need about 500 cartriges to enjoy this.

Cartridges
I echo the posting about contacting the local Police and letting them dispose of them.
If they have got damp they are probably safer than normal but they need proper disposal.
