Isle of Man
Got 2 weeks off work starting on 23rd of the month and thinking of going to the IoM at some point, the Manx Rally starts on the 27th so might go around this date. I have checked crossings and can get return fair for £68 for the car and 2 adults. Anyone live there or have info on the Isle, heard there are no speed limits on some of the roads (hope the Mrs dont read this). would it be advisable to book a B&B before hand or are they rederly available, as this trip will probably be done on the spur of the moment, as will be touring Scotland as well during the fortnight.

I think the non speed limit roads are few and far between nowadays. Mostly the limit is a tad low.
If there's a rally on, accommodation will be quite difficult to find, might be best to book ahead.

My Dad lives there, i have just applied for a job there and i have been going regularly for the last 16 years.
Any road showing National Speed limit signs are unlimited. There are however speed limits on a lot of the roads which are fairly strictly Policed.
There are no speed cameras.
The best piece of road on this planet is still unlimited though.
Ramsey to Douglas over the Mountain on the TT course.
13.5 miles of the most fantastic sweeping, scenic and dangerous A road i have ever seen.
Make sure you take it easy to start with or you will end up on your roof over a rather large drop.
I wouldn't worry too much about booking a B and B, there are hundreds and even at TT in the past when there are 50,000 bikers there i've got a place to stay easily. Just go to the tourist office at the ferry port when you arrive and ask.
Have fun but respect the TT course, if you get it wrong at big speeds there you will be lucky to get away unscathed.
Paul.

There's a load of folks from SIDC going over for the Manx rally, I'm going over but not with them.
There are loads of really nice B&B's and campsites all over the island, the village of Laxey is very nice. I'm just takign a tent and plonking it in a campsite I know, with a proper toilet/show block and within walking distance of the beach, 4 great pubs, and a handful of nice restaurants.
You'll love it there.

The mountain road is being resurfaced at the moment so actually has a 20mph limit, the mountain mile anyway!!! Very smooth when they (eventually)finish it. The Brandywell road, off the mountain road twards Kirk michael, is a real hoot, and a rally section too.
Certainly loads of accommodation.
Emjoy yourself!

Can someone tell me roughly how many miles of de-restricted road there is on the IOM? Or even better, a map that has it all marked on
I'm thinking of planning a trip over there hopefully later this year, early next. Trying to get lots of info in advance
