My brother is in the process of starting his own business (vechicle body repairs, spraying, body kits, fancy paint jobs etc etc) when he eventually decides on a name does he have to register it/find out if its already been used, or is this only required when your a Ltd company?

Oh, and while im at it, what difference does it make being a Ltd company? I take it this isn't neccessary if it's just him and my dad working there/for themselves?

he can pick "any" relative name, providing it fits his business and its a "trading as" name (google -"sole trader")

you can register for vat voluntarily(sp) again have a look at small businesses or goto barclays!!!
