Default How quickly do you reply to texts?

Just wondering how quickly people reply to texts? I generally reply almost instantly assuming Im not driving or busy at work etc - though a mate of mine yesterday said he very rarely replies within an hour or so?

I know often people dont reply quickly when they are texting in relationships (so as to not seem needy) though I also find that kindof annoying !

whats the concencus?

Depends, I usually reply immediately if I'm interested in the subject or the person I fancy etc, if it's someone I can't be arsed with, then I'll put it off for a while.

Texting...it has to be the most anti social, frustrating form of communication on the planet

It's the cause of more depression and self reproach than anything imaginable

....and everyone is guilty of causing distress to other folk simply cos they think that they have the right to respond "when it suits them"

So you mean you texted her, asked her out for a drink but she's not replied yet? She probably wants to confer with her mates at work tomorrow!

Nowt wrong with texts!

I am terrible with them, i reply immediatly to all texts, if im driving and hear my phone go i will pull over in the first (safe)place and read/reply.

Never been a chatty person on the phone, so they suit me.

Ages if at all. My old (and I mean OLD) Nokia had the simple screen, always on, you could glance at it, see the envelope, and read it. The new SE has a screen saver, so if I'm away from the phone (likely at work) and don't hear/see it arrive, it can sit on my desk in front of me for hours/ all day without me knowing I've got one (I hardly check it every 20 mins to see if anyone loves me, that would be a bit sad...). Drives the wife nuts.

It depends on my location, if I'm at a rally then it could be all day before I notice I have a text as the new message alert is the sound of a WRC car going past at full chat

I'm the same. My texts always seem to arrive when I'm away from my phone. It can be days/weeks before I actually use my phone to make a call and notice I've got a text.

Also, in N.America, text reliability is appalling with numerous different message lengths etc. A large percentage never get to the other end. Those that do can take hours if not days. Texts from the UK can take up to a week to arrive.

The time to reply is inversely proportional to the attractiveness of the sender

>How quickly do you reply to texts?

Depends how important it is to reply and how important those people are who are texting you. Moreover,is it just a garbage they are texting or someting substantial.

I refuse out of principle to reply to anyone who texts using stupid abbreviations, I don't mind the odd acronym thrown in but abbreviations drive me insane. Anyone using poor punctuation doesn't get a reply either

Usually most are answered within about 3 days, unless its a fine looking lady or an invitation for a drink when I will usually respond within half an hour.

Much easier if people just phone me.

You're a star!

Not sure if this means I should spend less time on SN and more on a P910 forum - or just stick around here and have my questions answered for me!

I'll try that when I get home tonight - cheers!

It's the great thing about smartphones. if there's a niggle then it's likely that somebody out there has an app to solve the niggle.

Have you got SMan yet Brendan on your phone? A 'must have' app for your P*** phone. free as well.

Yup, got it... dunno what it's for, never used it, but people said I have to have it so I got it...

I've been given masses of apps by a mate, but no manuals of course, and I haven't a clue where to start. I'm certainly not going to install six different calendars and use each for a week to see which I prefer, for example.

Trouble is, these things are getting so smart that I don't even know what to look for. All I know is the official SE manual is utter crap. My 1994 Psion manual was brilliant, explained everything, encouraged you to use it - this one just scratches the surface. I don't know if "it's" sad or I'm sad for buying such a gadget and using it to 1% of its capacity.

Phone currently types only digits for SMS using numberpad, it used to type letters like most text phones, no idea how it changed or where to go to change it back again. Holding the *key down doesn't do anything. Another niggle (still on thread topic!!) is that to send a message to my wife I have open a new message, select contacts (if I don't know the number), scroll down the contacts screen to find her name (even after jumping to jkl), select which phone (I have her UK number there too), and then start with the message. Shouldn't there be a "nickname" system like with email where I can just type "wife" or "*1" or summat? As it is, I keep an old message of hers in my inbox and just hit "reply", it's way quicker.
