Photocopier for home - repair this or get another one?
From the parents:
We have nasty black lines across all copies from our Panasonic 7113
photocopier. I bought this new, in about 1996.
Panasonic wont service it, and a local engineer I approached rang back
after a couple of days saying that although the aftermarket boys do spares
for many panasonics and others, no-one does spares for this one.
The temptation is to get a newer, second-hand one.
Currently used for mild home office work, maybe 20 copies a week. Fast start-up (switch on, make three copies, switch off) would be useful - as would cheap spares, as I understand this is where the money's made, like with PC printer cartridges.
Anyone got any advice?
Thanks
Brendan

I use a second hand Toshiba 1350 which would do the job you describe. Fairly robust and AFAIK spares still around. I guess an e-bay search would reveal prices?

Sounds like your drums knackered...thats the bit which gets magnetised and demagnetised to create the image on the drum to transfer onto the paper. Some are fairly economical to replace as they only have a limited lifespan, whilst others cost a small fortune to replace.
Either that, or there is a chance you've got crap inside the scanner slot - remove/slide back the glass top and give it a good vacuum.

?time to get a multi-functional? acts as a copier, fax machine, computer printer.
Lexmark and Brother do pretty good models (about 100 pounds).
..... unless the oldies are technically challenged?

In my old Toshiba, mentioned above, there is a sort of wire strip the length of the drum which can be pulled out and cleaned. Sorry can't me more specific than that but when it was wiped clean copies got much better. Just had to treat it gently.
