Default Information sins on the M25

Where do I go to complain about these ?

I was on my way back from Oxford last night on the M40, just before the M25/M40 junction there is an information sign saying M25 J21 - J25 LONG DELAYS, I think Yeah right it's 8:30 and the traffic is pretty light but all the may from the M40 Junction the same message is being shown so at J21 I decide to get off and head towards the M10/A414 only to hit heavy traffic so I head down the A1 back onto the M25 at J23 and guess what...it was comlpetley clear all the way to and past J25 even though just after J24 there was a sign saying M25 J21 - J25 LONG DELAYS.

So I had an hour added to my journey and used more fuel thus creating more pollution because some **** couldn't be bothered to update the signs. No wonder people ignore them

Actually how are the information signs on the M25 updated.

If you were stuck watching CCTV footage all day...would you tamper with the signs to make your day slightly more interesting?

I never take notice of the ruddy things.

Some are updated from the National Traffic Control Centre (NTCC in Birmingham). They control the big strategic message signs (3 x 16 MS3 to give 'em their proper title). The other signals are controlled from Motorway Control.

Sounds like NTCC were asleep..........

I was on the M25 on Friday eve and I past two signs within a few miles that said "Fog" and it was clear!?!?!

Also there was about 3-4 signs that said 40Mph and everyone was doing a steady 70-80mph!

Then a few weeks ago I was on the M25 heading towards the M1 and I had just past J22 (one junction before the M1) and there was then a message on one of those bloody great signs saying M1 closed at J8!! Bloody great I thought.................why couldn't they put it on the sign I passed a few miles before J22, and then I could have turned off on J22 and went a different way!

Bloody useless!!!

I used to work at a company that supplied motorway message signs.

All I can say is that I'm amazed they even work and display a message, let alone an up-to-date message. Also, if a local authority gets control of any traffic system of any kind, you can absolutely guarantee they will not use it properly and **** everything up.

I was coming back from taking MrsREV to the airport on friday, heading westbound from Manchester towards Chester on the M56. The signs said "Delays A1(M) J25" which if I remember rightly is some 100 miles EAST and not even remotely reachable from the M56. Fecking useless.

they should do a deal with traffic master to display live info.
Now that would be useful

Jerome: Thanks for making comment on the intelligence of the staff. If you think you can manage the signals for the M50, M5, M6, M600, M54, M42, M40, M69, A46 & A38 in addition to answering the phone and doing the other myriad tasks the signals controller has to do (please notice that there is only one of them), please apply for a job. The HA needs more people who can walk on water!

I admit not all local authority controlled traffic control systems are run badly. However, I know of at least one where they kept changing the configuration for the SCOOT system we supplied them with and optimised. If you've ever driven around the roundabout on the A30 in Camberley (by the Tescos & Marks) in the rush hour, you'll know what I mean (unless they've improved their act in the last few years).

Various other places where a major road will get a red light to let no-one out of a side road because the system is set on automatic timing rather than using the detectors in the road etc.

I apologise if I lumped you HA guys in with the local authorities I've had experience with. I certainly won't be applying for a position at the HA. I have enough trouble walking on land...

Fecking hell, the bloody A1M sign is still on the M56! http://195.188.249.61/map/browse.cgi...rent=on&vms=on

Although it's A1(M) J48 - 49 Accident. How long is that accident taking to clear up? So far it's 5 days and counting and it's still bloody miles away!

I believe a Commons Select Committee has just criticised the Highways Agency for not doing enough to alleviate congestion.
Is this an example of their criticism?
