Classic car restoration courses?
Does anyone know of such a thing in the North of England (pref near or to the East of Manchester)?
Father has spent 30 yrs in the motor industry and can do all mechanical maintenance. He's keen to learn welding/ body repair etc - I'm looking for something that is practical (possibly via a classic car club?) rather than an NVQ with spotty kids where they spend 2 hours a week being talked at like thickos.
Am I looking for something that doesn't exist?

Gordo, it does exists in fact there are a few around, best bet is to flick thru the classic car mags, one of them (sorry cant remember which) had a review of a couple.

As an aside, how's his knowledge of electrics? I had a kit car for 4 yrs, was told by another owner that most people who build them do so as they are very confident with the mechanicals - so they promptly screw up the electrics. That was certainly true with mine...

His electrics / mechanical kowledge is excellent (he started out 30 years ago as an AA patrol so has re-built many cars down the years etc).
I guess I'm really looking for some way of him being able to get involved in classic car restoration - it's always been his dream to own an old Alvis or even a veteran car that needs work on it and he now has the time to devote to this. Not sure if this involves different skills or sympathy to working on a modern car but I know he'd like to learn how to weld and to be involved in car restoration somehow.
(And I must admit an ulterior motive as I'd like to get my hands on an old Triumph or Jag to use on point to point navigating in France etc, sharing it with him but relying on him for the servicing/reliability)
Which classic car mags are likely to carry adverts for anything like this?

Gordo, any monthly classic car mag (sorry to be vague I cant remember exact names) just do what I do stand in Tesco's for half an hour having a flick through and if there is something of interest then buy it!
