Thumbs up

I have a Jamo all in one dvd player with their 410pdd speakers. Superb sound quality IMHO and looks good enough for the lady in your life not to mind such toys in the living room.

Better to go visit the real geeks!

Carl, a mate of mine bought the £100 one from safeway about a year ago and it sounded pretty good. It was a dvd player with built-in 5.1. It came with the speakers. He used it for music, dvd and ran his ps/2 through it. I thought it sounded ok, and for £100 you can't go wrong.

It is such a big subject and really the starting point is firstly your budget and secondly the size of the room. If it cannot take big floor standing speakers for example then it will narrow yr choice. It doesnt sound like you want a full seperates system, so look at the various packages that Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer do. I would go for the big names myself as they dont cost a great deal and the cheap stuff generally looks and sounds cheap.

I would love the Bose system but the cost is a little over the top !

I've got an integrated Sony system (DAV-S800 IIRC) and I'm well pleased with it. Much as I would love a full seperates system it would be wasted in the flat I'm living in at the moment. They don't make the model I have anymore but I'm sure there will be something similar in the current range, mine cost about £650 after a bit of shopping around.
