False Loan Application
I have just recieved in the post an approval for a Loan I did not apply for. All my details are correct bar the phone number which is an Estate Agents fax number 15miles away!. The Employment details are all completely false as no such company exists!.
I phoned up the the Loan company who have stopped the loan, the seemed very helpfull. They asked me for my bank details they did not match the ones on the application but they would not tell me what they where.
The Loan company are telling me that they think somebody has tried using my details to get a loan paid into their account. They are sending me a letter co confirm that the loan will not be going out and has now been stopped. Also they have put a password on my credit rating to stop any body else trying to use it other than me.
I am still concerned as they asked if we had any credit cards stolen or bills that we did not recieve etc.
Do I contact the police?
Any body any advice?
Cheers Andy

I would, they would be able to trace the owner of the other bank account, if they can be bothered. Also, at least your covered if the same peolpe have tried to get loans from other companies.

Yeah, contact the old bill who will most likely do......sweet FA, IME.
Check your credit rating and you will see how many companies have done a credit check on you. That will give you an idea if this is a one off or someone has used your identity for more.

Hang on, this is not the real scam is it. Some pondlife sends you a cobbled together letter and obtains over the phone all you private details just to "check" with the non-existent fake set they have

It was a bit more than a cobbled together letter it was a proper letter from a high street PLC.
Cheers for the concern though

Hi guys,
check out www.creditexpert.co.uk - you can get your credit report instantly. You pay for the service but there's a free 30 day trial. It's run by Experian and I've used it in the past to monitor my rating.
hope it helps,
Jai

Not sure about this bit -
a. how can they put a password on your information with a credit agency, Which credit agency, they should be able to provide you with a contact number to confirm this,
b. have they told you what the password is
c. what impact will this have on your future applications
some info here

Could be someone working at the estate agent that is up to no good or at least part of the chain. Estate agents have access to plenty of empty homes so it's very easy for them to make false applications with dodgy addresses.
