Phone Scam? 01592 777800
I've had calls from this number every day since I put my Fabia VRS on Auto Trader (which i hasten i add i've decided to keep now) and that was 3 months ago now, has anyone else got calls from this number.
A quick Google suggests its a call center in Scotland which may be associated with scams, anyone else had this number call them.
I've NEVER answered it, not even the first time as I was busy, then when it kept ringing so much I got suspicious and never answered it!

phone rings..dont know the number so a) answer and say "who is it" or b) post on SN and ask us who is calling you???
i used to think the ppl asking for numbers of IM/local dealer etc were bloody lazy......but asking us who's calling YOU is a bit much!
what next?? you want to know what your wifes cooking for your tea?

you answer it and they claim to be working for a magazine which wants to send you a free copy.
The deal is you get sent the magazine which is a big advertising splurge for the data scheme detailed above.
I had exactly the same when I sold my 3-door.
astraboy.

Answer it and tell them your not interested, that should reduce the number of calls. In future put "no agencies" at the end of your ad.
They're based in glenrothes in fife which is not far from me, they claim to advertise your car but i've never seen a car advertised by them!

Not at all, people who put no agencies tend to know the scam, I know someone who used to work for them and most of the time they had more than enough to be calling without bothering with ones that say no agencies.
"moth to a lightbulb" - ridiculous, do you really believe it's going to make them more likely to call you!

These people are a pain in the ****!
I had the same about a year or so ago despite clearly stating 'no canavassers' in my ad.
They're a thick skinned lot; even after being told to FO after their 5th call they still kept on calling!
It's a complet scam - seems legal though.

no canvassers
They tried it on with me yesterday, asked me if I was ok to hold a viewing last night as they had a potential viewer. I asked if he was phoning from a finance company and he said he was so I told him to **** off under no uncertain terms and he called me a fool and hung up
I ******* HATE CARDATA AND ALL THESE FINANCE COMPANIES

this has to be the funniest news item ever:
Householders are being told to think very carefully if they are confronted with a dubious new sales technique -
doorstep traders selling "We don't buy from the doorstep" signs.
The warning from trading standards officers in Warwickshire comes after they received a complaint from one woman who bought a sign for £1.
She was told her current sign, which had been provided free by Warwickshire Police to deter hawkers and traders,
was no longer suitable and she should buy a new one.

I'll have it Anyway, enough of the banter.
I'd like to know more about why it was a bad idea to accept a viewing. I know about the Car Data scam (the hard way for yrs ago). Don't see what the harm is in showing somebody around your car, finance co or not?

That explains it olly, you better watch out if your not an authorised advertiser
Luminous - they say if you pay our fee we have buyers looking for a car exactly like yours and can have someone out to view it tomorrow. It never happens.
A mate of mine was actually silly enough to pay the fee to one of these companies as he wanted silly money for his car and they promised they could get him it.
They phoned him every couple of days saying are you available tuesday afternoon for a viewing etc but nobody ever came, after a couple of weeks they stopped calling him and when he called them they said interest had dropped off and they would get back to him.

Richard P is right on the money, these companies say they have buyers lined up for viewings but you have to pay them a £70 registration fee.
Once you pay the fee the buyers magically vanish and you hear no more - scam pure and simple !!!

Oh I get you. I thought that you were saying that someone was coming to look at the car without have to pay up first.
Thats a really nasty development. Not only do they take your money, but they make you stay in your house day after day waiting for the fictitous buyer
