What's your age? From what I recall, Doctors really don't like removing tonsils from people over 18 unless there is dire need to do so. I could be wrong though

I was extremely ill at the age of 30 through repeated infection, and had to have them out. Be warned, it's remarkably unpleasant at that age - every time you get new infections, you get new scar tissue, so there was a fair amount of digging required to take mine out, whereas it's dead easy with kids.
Morphine was the only painkiller that worked, and I had a pretty miserable 3 weeks before I was (almost) back to normal. Overall, not recommended unless you absolutely can't avoid it.

As I have got older (34) I get it only about once a year now, usually after drinking from a dirty beer bottle etc. The fecking things have ruined several expensive holidays, gone out to get pissed, drunk from a beer bottle covered in rat **** and then spent 5 days in bed.

Just had my first bout of tonsilitis myself - I really feel sorry for you as it knocked me for 6 for at least 4 days. Just felt like I had a really bad case of the flu, and a sore throat to finish me off
Hope you get it sorted.

Blimey, 4 days and stuff? You guys have it easy. When I got a bout of it I would be laid up for at least 7-10 days and had hallucinations, night sweats, couldn't eat, could barely drink. And after that it used to take me a month before I felt 100% again
Since I've had them out I've had one cold this year and nothing else. Hasn't stopped me working and I feel the healthiest I've ever done. Get them out!

I used to get it a lot, went to the doc who told me the same thing as he told you - it's not pleasant and we don't like to do it.
Did a bit of reading up about it - found that it can be stress induced. As it happens this was the case for me - a change of job and a healthier diet, now I suffer no more
Don't know if this could be the case for you, but it may be useful to know.

I never had tonsilitis but they were removed when I was 3 1/2 years old. Don't know why though.
I still remember when they brought me some semolina with hot jam on it afterwards and I nearly went through the roof!
Never had any problems since though.
