Default Total Recall - Call me dense but I don't get it

It doesn't seem to matter how many times I watch this film, but I just don't understand it. Odd really as I understand Vanilla Sky perfectly.

Can someone peerrrrrlease explain it to me? Is he really 'dreaming' all this or what?!?

Simon.

I didn't watchit this evening, so this is going from memory. Nearly everything that you see is what he is living.

All that has happened is that they have changed his memory, so that they can try and control his actions.

It's a typical Paul Verhoeven crock of sh!te though, a plot with more holes than a block of emmentahl, special effects out of 'The Wrong Trousers' and the violence scenes are so badly over done they'd disgrace a comic book

Dont think that link actually answers the question of "is what you see in the film all real or is it the implanted memory at recall we see".

It does make some attempt at sorting it out. But you should be able to find additional info from there. There are normally links to fansites or something similar

He used to be a secret agent. They have wiped his mind and inplanted a new memory, including a marriage to Sharon Stone. He goes to Recall for a mars memory implant. There he is persuaded to try the Secret Agent role playing memory. The injection triggers his real memory and he has a flashback of his former life. On his way home he is encounted by his work colleague who was assigned to keep track on him. He kills them and goes home, where his wife tries to kill him then explain how his marriage is fake. He then has to go on the run, and heads to mars to find out the truth.

it does get confusing, when he first went to recall you seen melinas face on the computer screen and the doc said "blue sky on mars, thats a new one" so was it all a dream or did it unlock his real memory?

its all hinges on what the doctor said
"I'm afraid thats not possible bob, cos we havent implanted it yet"
It has to be real as she didnt implant the ego trip.
QED.
