Question

Well it was there when I posted it, the story that 50 speeding cops at the wheels of patrol cars, but without blues or sirens, have been caught on camera recently, and ALL have been let off.

And Derbyshire is one of the places you are LEAST likely to get off, unless, of course, you are plod

Whats your point?

Blues and sirens are ONLY required if you deem them necessary to alert other road users of your presence.

I'm quite sure that the vast majority, if not all of the 50 could justify not using the siren/lights.

Its common to go to a "hurry up" call, in excess of the speed limit but without the need for blues and twos. The common misconception is that the police are required to use the siren and lights in order to drive faster than the speed limit.

Also bear in mind that when attending certain emergency calls, the last thing you want is the housebreaker or car thief to hear you coming from 2 miles away, due to the siren

Silent approach anyone?

It's a bit less simple than you're making out though. If a cop speeds through a camera he has to radio through and say so. If he's unaware that he's sped through a camera he's either not paying attention to the road or not paying attention to his speed. Either facts are a no-no for us mere mortals.

That applies whether he has his lights on or not so none of this 'he was sneaking up on the guy in the stripy top with a swag bag' please.

Some people might think it's ok but I'm sick of the "one rule for them, one rule for us" establishment.

Oh, by the way - none of the officers in question had radioed through.

The only way officer's in our force get off with speeding or red light cameras is purely if they are on route to a call, and update the control room at the time so that the incident is recorded and the photo can subsequently be dealt with.

If a cop gets a NIP in a police car and there is no record of them being on route to a justifiable incident, its 3 points and £60 fine.

Since when have police had to radio that they've set off a camera? Who told you that LOL???

We went through several last night without a single call going through. Commentry on what we were doing, yes. But no call saying we'd set a camera off.

We (Strathclyde) do it on EVERY occasion.

If the camera activation is not recorded on Storm, we are liable for the fine/endorsement.

Poor you then!

Seems a bit stupid as it can all be linked to times/CAD etc and therefore cross referred.

Angry

The blue light loophole was intoduced due to ambulances and drivers of blood doner or organ doner vehicles driving through the scameras

the way round it was by having a blue available in the frames... would render the nip void ie on official duty...

given that the scameras flash at xx speed the chances of 59 not showing up is highly unlikly... therefore they were in valid nip,s

interestingly enough it just gives more ammo to the guy who states that the flash timing is inaccurate and the nips are incorrect...

so they are just trying to buttf8Ck us yet again...

sad to say unless you revolt they are going to screw us to the wall..

pc uk ok

its a fineline betwen democracy & dictatorship!!!

As neither of the above links work for me, here is another link:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...re/4586157.stm

If they were all on validated shouts, I don't see the problem.

Edited to highlight this anti-speeding ****:

Brake spokesperson Caroline Chisholm said: "Officers who break speed limits make a mockery of the crucial laws of the road that other police officers work hard to enforce.
"All drivers - police officers and members of the public - have a responsibility to stay well within limits at all times because breaking the speed limit by just a few miles per hour can be fatal."

Don't get me wrong, if Storm hasn't been updated, you could still get off as long as you can prove that you were on route to a call at the time you were flashed. It just gets complicated, so its much easier and less messy to stick a one-liner on the incident and it can be binned immediately.

no! i dont want to stay in this godforsaken jackbooted place any more,

and as soon as i can persuade the wife, leaving we shall be!!!

i have nothing against democracy and fair and just policing, what i object to is remote policing and a systematic abuse of the legal system to give a 2 tiered system that favours the ruling caste... which changes any just methods of defendijng yourself to conviction by say so!!

Tb is the most undemocratic person going,,, what amazes me is we are heading for a socialist state and people think he,s great...

i took the blue pill long ago !!
