Something for FREE! That makes a change!
Its not often in life that you get something for free, zip, nada, gratis, but is it really ever free?
I've just been given a sort of freebie but can't help thinking I've paid for it anyway.
Got my broadband with Virgin 'cos I don't have to sign up to any fixed length contract. So last week I had an email saying they would upgrade my 512K speed to 1mbps for FREE.
Anyways, this week is been done and I'm now getting a downstream speed of 926kbps which is better that the 450ish I had last week and miles better than dial up. But I'm still forking out £24.99 pcm and have done so for the past 20 months, so they've had around 500 squid from me which in my mind says I've paid for this "free" upgrade already.
Am I right or is it me just being a moaning coont?

MODS: Please don't move to Computer Forum, its about freebies not about broadband. Thanks.

Hello
Well, technology and prices have moved on. So that price is average for 1mb. So it isn't really free, but you are still moaning!
I participated in the Ladbrokes thing on here a while ago and made £200, now that was free.

What about the price of eggs!
Tesco's charge you an arm and a leg, well ok its £1.26, for 1/2 dozen free range eggs. Just found a small shop around the corner from them (a typical olden days type shop with an old boy behind the counter) and they sell 12 extra large free range eggs for £1.60 and you then get an extra 6 FREE making it 18 eggs!
Ah thats better

My download limit is not capped, well AFAIK its not, 'cos it wasn't when we went with Virgin. I have since considered changing to a capped tariff but don't know if it would be sufficient with 3 people in the house all using the internet daily and often at the same time.
I dropped a bo11ock over a sort of freebie from orange. Had an old contract (~2yrs) but went to the orange site and got a 6230 on a £25 pm contract.
A month later I rang up to cancel my old contract and they offerd me a free 6230 if I stayed plus the same amount of Xnet mins and texts but for only £15 pm
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH
Tried to cancel my new contract but was too late so I'm stuck paying a tenner a month more than I needed too
