Question False Laser alert on BEL550

Now that the 14 day period has passed I can rest a bit easier

I was on the M25 in Herts a few Sunday nights ago at about 10:30 pm when my BEL popped up with a Laser warning. Never had one before and it scared the life out of me.

I was able to have a quick look around, but couldn't see any Talivans, and anyway it was late on a Sunday night so they wouldn't be working would they?

So what was it? Do they ever get falsely triggered?

At the time I was being followed by a Mitsi 3000GT and I wondered if he had a 'garage door opener' that he switched on for a laugh

Gantry's have laser fog detectors which can set off laser detectors, probably just that.

I get false laser alerts on my 550, usually when I'm going under a bridge.

My main problem is the power connection between the lead and the unit is shagged, go over a bump in the road and the connection is broken, low battery beep and the unit reboots I guess after 4 years I've had a good use out of it.

Wait until you get "draw bridge open" (or something like that)

Most comical.

Most probably ANPR cameras (rather than fog detectors) on overbridges.

They were originally only supposed to be active during major incidents (bank robberies, terrorist threats etc.), but now seem to be left on continuously

They look like a cross between TrafficMaster cameras and SPECS.
