Camera Vans - a few questions...
I have been potentially caught by a camera van this morning on the M20 but a few details are putting doubt into my mind as to whether it was a camera van.
1) Do the police (especially Kent) use unmarked plain white transit vans?
2) Do camera vans sometimes point away from you and not always towards you?
3) If the van was pointing North for example, would the police park the van on the south side of the bridge (if it was the only place to park) so it had to point across/over the bridge to see traffic moving away from it?
4) Do camera vans point out the side door of a transit van as well as pointing out the back of a transit van?
It could well of been a builders white van parked up, but as I looked over my shoulder I just saw the side door wide open and thought oh **** its a camera van
All the camera vans I have seen before in Kent have been stickered up as such and always park right in the middle of the bridge where they can be clearly seen where as the van I saw today was at the very far side tucked well into some bushes. I really hope it was not a police van for my licenses sake
Not interested in the holier than thou responses of serves you right blah blah blah.

hi bob
guessing you were doing about 71-72
dont think that any force uses unmarked vans for speed any more
all the vans aroud here use the side door
could be a road tax cam?
if all else fails http://www.pepipoo.com/

Cheers Richie, doubt it was a road tax one as the open door was facing at traffic going away from it, mind you at least they could say they didn't see any tax on any of the vehicles and do everyone, wouldn't surprise me under New Labour!
I am more inclined to think it was a non police van the more I think about it, it just leaves that sense of worry in your mind when you've passed a white van with its side door open on a bridge and you've been giving it some on the throttle.

Nevermind B2Z, if a ticket shows up I'm sure you will be able to talk your way out of it using your skills of well reasoned argument!
For what its worth, I have never seen a scamera van parked up on the wrong side of a bridge, they would have traffic moving infront of them and all sorts so I reckon you are in the clear!

LOL that smiley cracks me up, however I think that applies to both of us when 'discussing' cats and each others replies oh and your be pleased to know I am actually currently in conflict with one of the neighbours cats who keeps sh!tting in my newly laid back garden without burying it, i'm just avoiding cruelty in the battle with it such as air guns
I did think its strange to be on the wrong side of the bridge, however its a very minor bridge and not even sure if its a public road so very little in terms of obstruction.
Am sure I have seen the same van there before, if I see it tomorrow I will stop and climb up the bank and have a peek over the bridge just to satisfy my inquisitiveness

I thought I'd been done by a van about a month ago. I came over a crest on a bit of dual carriageway making *ahem* steady progress, right into the sight of a speedgun aiming out of the back window. I lifted off, braked and tucked myself into the left lane behind another vehicle but was convinced they'd got me. I had an anxious couple of weeks but no NIP turned up. Maybe they got the bloke behind me instead who was doing the same speed as me but didn't see the van and carried on on his merry way without a care in the world?
Fingers crossed for you anyway

I've been using a child's catapult against the rats which steal from the birdfeeders. Haven't managed to hit one yet but it makes them run away quickly enough.
We found a good source of ammunition, a bag of Mint Imperials which had fallen all over the floor
Hope it doesn't come to anything B2Z, bet it was just an innocent chap parked uo.

In South Yorkshire they have a large dedicated ANPR device in the back of a plain white, un-marked Iveco. Its common to see extra Police activity where this is deployed though.
Similar equipment (plain van with something in the back, doors open by the side of the road...) is also used by the MoT I believe, to monitor traffic levels.

I have seen Essex using unmarked white vans recently. Most frequently with the Laser gun on a long umbilical lead back to the van which is tucked out of sight behind some bushes.

My wife has recently beed done by a mobile in Kent and she never saw it, so I suspect they are using vans with minimal markings.
If the markings were only on the back I assume you wouldn;t have seen them

On a related note, every time I go down the A12 in Essex, there's always about 4 blue vans parked up on Mountnessing roundabout (the one with the BP and McDonalds on it) marked as "Menzies Distribution" what's that about and why is their parking depot on the side of a roundabout with a good view of the A12 passing underneath?
