Default Should Howard go?

Time for him to step down?

Gain of +0.6%

He is a great "speaker" but does not have the right image

Wrong question. What you should be asking is how quickly Blair will go before the Brown camp finally stop sitting on the fence and start the bloodbath that Labour needs if it is to have any chance of getting through any of its policies with such a reduced majority.

If the electorate could be bothered to look at the underlying policies of each party, rather that concentrating on personalities then we would have quite different results at election time.

Seems he has just announced he will go sooner rather than later and certainly before the next election - according to my BBC News Desktop Notification - more to follow soon apparently.

From the BBC Website:

"Michael Howard announced that he was standing down as Conservative leader.

He said he wanted to "do now what is best for my party, and above all for my country". But he said he would stay as leader until the party's rules on selecting a successor had been changed. "

They should have put Ken Clarke in: he's just more popular and well liked than Michael Howard. I fear that modern politics has more to do with image than policy!

For sure - only trouble is KC is too pro-Europe for the Tory hard liners.

I agree... I'm thinking something along the lines of "The Day of the Jackal," but with more success, should do the trick...

His public image is rubbish...he looks and acts like a politician!!
As far as Con politicians go, he'll do the job.

But as a public figurehead for the Cons, he hasn't a chance amongst the general population of thickos who purely judge on asthetic appearances

What the cons need is someone these types of people will like. Perhaps a soap star, ex-boyband singer. Maybe that Steve bloke who won the X-factor??

It's a pity that a significant population in this country is so stupid to judge a country's leader based on nothing more than a few photos and a few arsey Journos trying to sell a news story

If the media jump ship, in particular the Sun and such like, that's what will affect the voting at grass roots.

Yes - Just imagine what would have happened if Max Clifford was the leader of the Conservatives instead of Howard
