Nearly killed a pedestrian last night
I was headed along the M80 Glasgow to Stirling motorway last night with my two kids on board. Cruising at a nice steady 75 and had just overtaken a few slower moving cars. Then I noticed a man standing on the hard shoulder. He turned, looked round, and started to walk across the motorway in front of me.
I hit the brakes - full bore emergency stop from 75 mph. I discovered that Octavia vRS brakes are all they're cracked up to be. With the help of the ABS I steered round him and carried on my way. Nearly cacked myself though, and needed a long stiff drink when I got home.
Still don't know why he did it. It wasn't dark, and although I've a black car, it has xenons and should have been obvious.

Not nice, sounds like he wanted to commit suicide.
Know how scary it is, having once met a cyclist, with no lights, heading the wrong way down the outside lane of a motorway at night. He was just a drunk foreigner though, and he did get collected about 2 miles further down the motorway by 2 cars!

Nothing scares me more than people standing randomly by the side of the road in the dark! Where i live there are lots of country lanes and people appearing from the dark is not nice i just keep my doors locked and hope they dont run in front of me!!

had a close call going to work at some obscure club last winter.
Country road- unlit, and nothing but fields.
Come round a bend (not speeding either) and this pillock is walking in the middle of the lane in the irection of the traffic- no reflective things, no light nothing at all- idiot.
Was very very close.

We don't have them stepping out in front of us round here , but pedestrians still pose a bit of a scare problem.
We live on the edge of the Lincolnshire fens , and many's the night, we'll be driving home and have had a few near misses with dolts who totally ignore the "wear something white at night", advice. They are virtually invisible until you are right upon them. I wonder how many end up in the dykes round here.

I wouldn't want to do it again - not pleasant seeing a teenage girl face down in a pool of blood convulsing .
Still - it was a long time ago - the biggest impact is your Insurance no-claims - despite it not being my fault my no claims was suspended for a few years as these pissheads could claim against me - not great when you're 20 . And I had to pay for the repairs to my car
Pissheads were fine !
