Default Childhood memories

A few memories from my formative years, add your own.

/ Walls Cornetto, an Ice cream I could only aspire to, way too expensive, ditto Munchies and Mintola. Still cant bring myself to buy these in case I bankrupt us.

/ Kim Wilde Giving me a special feeling when I saw her on telly.

/ Wanting to burn/break stuff

/ Wondering how adults put up with having to drink Beer and Wine and thinking that I would never be able to stick it.

/ Discovering 'Options' Chocolate drink several years before they came to market, simply mix chunks of easter egg in the bathroom cup with the hottest water the tap could provide (scalding following the new boiler), mix to a paste with the non-bristly end of your toothbrush and add the secret ingredient to give it its minty freshness, delicious and cleans your teeth at the same time !

/ Being indignant that some **** of a kid managed to swap his poxy roller skates for a full Scalextrix on Swap Shop.

/ Inventing a game called Poo Sticks, yes I know the name was originally used by AA Milne for the Pooh the Bear books for the version where you race sticks thrown off a bridge from one side to the other, our variation involved Poo and Sticks, basically a case of finding a fresh Dog turd and getting a good clod on the end of your stick, then you chased your class mates at break time, if they werent quick enough, well you can imagine.........

/ Squashing toy cars in the vice, disposing evidence between our fence and next doors (they had a higher one in parallell due to having an acrobatic dog who did not want to stay with them), only to be discovered twenty years later by my dad replacing the fence, made me feel dead guilty, guilt deffered by 20 years, must be a record.

/ Beefburgers (Birds Eye), chips and ketchup whilst watching Captain Caveman.

/ Rooting for Christmas presents, for a month before Christmas I was on the prowl, checking the cupboards, one night my mum was cooking tea, my dad wasnt home from work and my little bro was watching telly so I had a look in my mum and dads top wardrobe, got carried away and the stool I was stood on rocked back, I fell forward and fell down the front of the wardrobe doors, trouble ws they were louvered so my nose rasped loudly across them before I landed winding myself. My mum caught me bang to rights.

/ Thinking XR3is were dead cool.

/ Skidding the tyre on my bike from the top of a large hill until it popped.

/ Thinking Jean Michelle-Jarre was the ultimate musician.

/ Pastie and Vannila slice from Greggs the bakers, sometimes a cone of chips.

/ Finding old ratty copies of porno mags on waste ground and thinking it perfectly acceptable to handle them.

/ Making dens, ours had leather seats due to being next to a Jaguar breakers !

/ Blagging car brochures from Quicks for Ford 'for my dad'.

/ Being freaked out by the picture of a red pepper in my Starsky and Hutch (1976) annual, had never seen one before.

/ Erecting a ramp in the street to jump over on my Raleigh Strika, got the landing wrong and crashed down the side of my dads car.

/ Finding a dead dog in a derelict house, crying about it in bed at night, didnt stop us going back every few days to check on its state of decomposition.

/ Digging up my Cousins dead Hamster which was buried in a Nescafe jar and getting to close when the lid was opened causing us both to spew.

You just don't see them anymore. I found some extremely hardcore stuff when I was a lad and it was only when i was much older that I appreciated how extreme it was. We'd bought a load of **** from a proper XXX Bookstore when I was 19 (16 years ago) to secrete round my mate's house while he and his folks were away on holiday and were very disappointed to find all the good bits covered by stars. It was at that point I realised that the mags I'd found, "read" and then sold at school were pretty hardcore stuff by UK standards.
