Smile 'Supersize Me' tonite on ch4

Not seen it, understand the bloke lives on just food (i use the term loosely) from mickie D's menu for a month.

Interested in the results.

May well order a pizza or such for the start.

Why?

If you ate Chicken Pasta for every meal for a month you'd end up with bad health. Eating a McDonalds once a week even, wont do you in. The key is a BALANCED diet.

Aye but you wouldnt put on 20% of your body weight and have the liver of an alchoholic !!
It is an interesting watch. If nothing else it has prompted McDs to boost the healthyness of their menu (not by much though when you see the stats)

A balanced diet means a balance of carbohydrate (energy) Fat (stored enrgy) vitamins and protiens, not a balance of different sort of crap.

Just watching it now, gloating over the fact i've never been to BK and only once to Mcdonalds.Never KFC,and never had a kebab.

600 calories in a poke of chips
800 calories (48 spoonfuls of sugar ) in the coke

running on a treadmil at 9mph for 45mins will only burn off around 600-700 calories. No wonder it makes you fat.

I watched and went a week or so later with the kids, Chicken McHealthy or whatever and fries, disgusting, leaves you feeling just plain wrong, belching and farting, Chicken Kebab from any other takeaway is the Fast Food to go for, bread, salad and lean chicken with a bit of tomato based chilli sauce, healthy take out.

The MacD's firies left my lips dry they were so salty, I never add salt to my food so I find them obnoxiously salty.

Supersize me is well worth watching if a little predictable, we all know we feel grotty after one meal there never mind a month, Egg mcMuffin anybody ?

no, that's in the McD's Supersize Coke - all 2 litres of it. Think there's only about 12 in a can

great film - and gotta be one of the bravest blokes around . not eaten at MD's since

Seem to remember that the majority of nutritionists questioned during the making of the docu stated that "you should eat MacDonalds......Never"

What's that got to do with anything? I'm an electronics engineer and I'm actively involved in our companies recruitment program. We couldn't give a toss if an engineer is chartered or not, we look at the CV's for experience and skills not a few extra letters you can put after your name. I all my years of working in the industry I've never come across another company that actively looks for chartered engineers during recruitment. Such an old boys network anyway

Back on topic please

(and no I don't eat McDs either)

Back off topic - far too easy for someone to claim that they qualified at the "school of life" as well! Good academics AND experience, and only then will I look at a CV.

Off topic again - yes I did forget to add that acedemic qualifications are also important to us, the candidate should have a degree from a good University, preferably an 2:1 or 1st. A lesser degree is only acceptable if they can back it up with experience. It's just the whole C.Eng thing that no one seems bothered about. As far as I understand it all you have to to is prove to the IEE that you have been doing relevant work for the last x years, have some responsibility, and they'll give you the title. It's in there interests anyway as the membership fees are much greater for charted. Cynic moi

Bollox to your lesley charteris.

Paul, I hope you didn't order a pizza for the start of the film. I watched it in the cinema; the bit when he takes 30 mins or more to finish the meal, then they leave the cameras rolling as he pukes it all up again, almost got me an expensive dry cleaning bill. I was doing a "3 wise monkeys in 1" during that.

Great film. LOL when his girlfriend says "he's not quite so active in bed - I have to go on top"!!

Great film, I will find it hard to eat fast food after watching it. He did however come across as "I want to be Micheal Moore" which spoiled it a bit.

At day 22 when he was slobbed out on the couch, his stomach all distended and the doctors all telling him to stop.... I guess too much of anything is by definition, "Too Much"!

Hmmm, I do wonder though what sort of success would the film have had if he ate MaccyD's for a whole month and was fine apart from a bit fatter?

Probably none, but I think he was trying to show just how much calories and sugar are in an average Americans diet and McD's (as well as other fast food outlets) play a large part in getting people hooked on the stuff - especially kids.

Also, it's extreme to eat that sort of food day-in-day out, 3 times per day but some people come close to consuming that amount of fast food.

It doesn't matter what would have happened with different outcomes, because there was no other outcome. It's like asking what would have happened if the dinosaurs didn't get wiped out or Hitler had won the war.

I'm guessing Jamie Oliver must have watched this at the cinema when it came out. No doubt the sections on school meals at least partially inspired him to pick up the baton over here.

Interesting film. When he barfed in the car park was a classic!

The fact that he actually felt "better" when he was getting his fix was very scary. Was class that his other half was a vegan

i think the food was fine - it was all the fizzy drinks...some had 48 tea spoons of sugar FFS - i think it was all the caffeine/sugar that messed him up. water and the food would have been more about mcd's than just coke, etc.
