Question Goldfish - Fin Rot

Ive had the tank now for about 3 /4 months and there are 3 golffish in it.
Ive noticed that one hasnt been feeling very well. Just sits near the fillter and dosent really do much.
His tale fins are all white at the end and ive found out that it has Fin Rot.Being new to the fish world dont really know what to do now, ive been told to do a 40% water change, this i have done tonight. What should i be doing next?

Going to pop to the fish shop tomorrow and see what he says.

So what do you guys recomend ?

I regularly use a multiple water treatment for fin rot and 2 or 3 other diseases, and find just 2 drops should do the trick.

See how it goes, I had two carp in my tank which I'd had 1 week and by the end of the second week both of their tails had disappeared.

My other fish were fine, so I took those two back and exchanged them.

Interpet do a good range on treatments for fish, I have used them for years (When required). They are abot £3.80 per bottle.

Number 5 in the range is called Liquisil General Tonic, and is very good as a once a month treatment which helps to keep background levels of bacteria and parasites down in the tank, also a good idea to add a dose if you introduce any new fish to the tank.

Number 8 in the range is the one you need to add to the tank right away, this is the Anti Fungus and Finfot treatment and as it suggests it clears up finrot.

Also I take it when you carry out a water change you add a water conditioner ?? A decent one will not only remove the chlorine and other chemicals from your tap water but will add a "Stress Coat" to your fish helping them to not get diseases such as Finrot, fungus, White spot etc...

I use nutrafin Aqua plus.

Second the Inerpet stuff. Mum uses it in her "hospital" tank.

Yes I have been using a conditioner. Its called Aqua Safe made by Tetra Aqua ?

So fin rot is treatable, the little fella will survive ? Best I get to the Shop tomorrow and by some treatment.

Your water conditioner is a well known brand, just check to see if it adds any anti stress coating for you fish, if not maybe worth changing once you have used it up.

Yep finrot is curable, you may find the affected fish / fishes maybe more prone to picking stuff up later on. Most diseases like finrot can be brought on by a fish being stressed, i.e new to the tank, being bullied by a tank mate, water conditions etc...

Also worth taking a water sample from the tank with you to you local aquatic shop and ask them to test the water condition for you, (Most places will do a fresh water chaeck for free) you can the hopefully eliminate poor water conditions as the cause.
