Spanish Water Dog?
Anyone familiar with this breed of dog? Come across one? We're thinking about getting a dog. I like the look of them, so does the missus. Read some interesting things about them via google but it's never as much fun as when you ask scoobynet

I think I saw one at the vets - looked a real mess with coat half off but quite a character as was its owner who was moaning about it leaving hairs everywhere all year round but loved it to bits! Sorry I can't be more helpful! DL

Most working dogs are selected for temperament rather than looks if they come from a genuine working strain. Once dogs of this nature start to get selected for reasons other than temperament then even a working breed can go wrong in terms of behaviour. In a way shows and the like can be a blight on the temperament of dogs as bad dogs which happen to have good looks can be bred from. However, in general dogs from most of the working breeds will tend to have a good temperament, or at least a good temperament for their job. You would not want a border collie in the town for example as they need to chase sheep or they go mad.
With this in mind you might like to go down the local dog pound and see what is there and if there is anything that you like in terms of its personality rather than looks. Giving a good home to an abandoned dog might be more rewarding than paying lots of cash for a puppy that might not turn out so well.
If you are going for something costly then it is worth considering if your priorities lie with looks or behaviour. You will, without question, get both in many dogs but buying from a working strain gives a much better chance of getting the temperament you want.
