Talking Gym advice please!!!

My 14year old son, has started to take an interest in building up his muscles. We have gym equipment in the cellar of our home, ie, bench press, weights etc. What is safe for a growing lad to do? Light weights and lots of repetitions or heavy weights and not many. Any help appreciated.

I'm no expert, but I've heard that lifting heavy weights isn't a good idea at that age because the bones are still actively growing and the stress may cause deformity on the ends of the bones and the articular surfaces (which are the sites of growth) , leading to problems in later life. Also, muscles won't grow effectively in response to training until his testosterone kicks in in the next year or two.

I can't see any harm in training with fairly light weights, though.

He 5'7" already and quite thin, so I think he's feeling a bit gangly. I'll tell him to stick to football and rugby. Cheers all

my sons the same age and sounds like the same build, for the last couple of years he has used light hand held weights and has trained with a boxing club for the last couple of years...he is very muscular but still slim, also runs alot and plays football. My local gym will only let kids up to 14 do cardio work then after that introduce a bit more but nothing like using weights.

give him sum ****, he will have popeyes arms by the end of the week, this will give him an advantage with the school arm wrestling, this will make him popular amongst the schoolgirls, this will be safe as he learned all his tricks from the ****, this will give him a regular full bodywork out as he does the funky bedroom chicken dance, this will fullfill all his "young man" requirements

and people think i wouldnt make a good father

ps
what was that freaky kid called, the one that his dad "aledgedly" pumped him full of roids from a really early age

you dont want him ending up like that
