Office desks should carry a health warning!
What a tw@t.
I had a bad start yesterday with stress levels reaching all-time highs (1st time in 16 years of employment!).
I had a "heated discussion" with some jobsworth @ work and as a result, took out my frustration on my desk - I hit it.
However, the joke was on me -
Result - broken little knuckle and fractured little finger
It was a heat of the moment - didn't think I'd hit it very hard, which was frightening when I think of how hard I *could* have hit it
Got to A&E - was out in an hour Very impressed.
Apart from my immense embarrassment (as I hold a position of respect and authority), I'm now annoyed with myself, as I feel that I've let my own standards slip.
There's also the stigma attached to having a "punch fracture" - 1st impression being that I'm some type of yob. This couldn't be further from the truth.
Those who know me will vouch that I'm really laid back and easy going.
Which is why this is such a surprise
What else shocked me was how easy it is to break a knuckle It didn't/doesn't hurt, but I felt it at the time and the best comparison was like feeling some lego bricks in a bag
However, as a result, I'm in this splint for the next 5 weeks Although the A&E said I'd be fine to drive (so insurance were happy - called them to confirm), I'm back down the quacks later JUST to double check. Looks like wifey might be driving the Scoob for a month!! Mind you, that's once she gets up of the floor from laughing That's what you get from marrying a nurse!
So lesson to be learnt? don't mess with desks - they'll get their own back!!!
Dan
ps - my boss wants a formal letter of apology to the desk for unneccessary trauma caused. desks have feelings to - we'll never have the same relationship again!!

Last time I had an office furniture incident, I had a desk with 3 brand new Dell 2800 poweredges weighing in at 60KG each, we decided to move the desk with them still on it, by dragging it, of course the legs gave way and we ended up on the floor with the servers, in a massive open plan office, how embarrassing

I did something similar in my youth, but I decided to bick on a brick wall. I think it won. I dented the brick, but broke the first and middle finger knuckles in the process. Hand swelled up something rotten. Didn't bother with hospital though as I didn't think they could do a lot. Took about a year or so for them to stop clicking all the time
They're alright now, just slightly larger than on my other hand.

Dan,
Sorry, had to laugh.
But you do realise the desk has to die ? It's the law of the office jungle. Burning would work, or maybe a chainsaw.

We have all done it at some point i reckon.
I put my hand through a wardrobe door not so long ago and im pretty sure i broke my knuckle in the process as its still giving me problems 8 months on.
Its amazing how stupid you feel after you've done it.

Well, I'm starting physio next week "no pain, no gain" - not too bothered about that, as I'm regarding the embarrassment as my sentence for my being so careless!
Bit difficult using a knife and fork - might just borrow the dog's bowl!!

the thought has never crossed my mind, as this has been a one-off freak incident, as I'm normally so laid back and placid you could describe me as many things, but "angry" isn't one of them.

Muppet! And no doubt you'll have comical jibes at work now!
I've hit the odd wall in the past to vent the anger in the heat of the moment, never more damage than bleeding and bruised knuckles - perhaps you need more calcium in your diet
Quite shocked you got in and out of A&E that quick
...Last few times I was in there one was a heart attack- requireing immediate attention(so the doctor said once he did see us), nobody saw us for 2 hours. And another time was a shattered ankle - gain needing operating immediately, took 5 hours waiting before we even got an x-ray. Then when I had an allergic reaction and my mouth/throat swelled up like a puffer fish - about 4 hours, by which I left without seeing anyone as the sweeling had completely disappeared by then. The when I broke my wrist - I was in waiting to get an xray for 6 hours. My mate fractured his thumb, that took about 5 hours.
Starting to see a pattern here?
Which hospital was it?? - its probably quicker for me to drive to that one rather than wait in the ones local to me

Ooh not too far from me then - I could get there in an hour
1 hours driving + 1 hour waiting sure beat 5 hours
I'll give it a try next time I become terminally incapacitated
