All you'd need is a plug adapter available for a couple of quid from Boots or somewhere like that. Check the apple website's US store for prices.

Those US prices including tax? If your mate is bringing back more than one then it's more likely he'll have to declare or pay tax at customs.

I've just come back from the US with a 30gB iPod photo; great bargain but as has been said before don't bother too much trying to find cheaper prices as Apple controls it all (I couldn't find cheaper than $350 ish).

I would add that a firewire lead is useful (if you have firewire on your PC - my Audigy soundcard has it), as it seems PC support for the bundled USB2 lead is flaky in some instances.

I have a shaver outlet in my bathroom which the US power adaptor goes into fine (adaptor is rated 100V - 240V AC, 50-60Hz), otherwise it'll charge via firewire (or USB2).

Upgrading the internal software seems to require an external PSU for it though.

It doesn't. Would be kind of impossible given that the iPod charges through the dock connector. How would you connect it to the PC and the PSU at the same time?

As per the other thread, forget buggering about with shaver sockets, spend a few pence on one of these. Pull off the US 2 prong module and you'll find a socket which you can plug that lead into.
