Worth getting an i-pod from the USA??
some mates of mine are going to the USA in a few weeks, and as i want an iPod i thought it might make sense to get them to buy me one when they're out there. how much could i expect to save on say a 20G or 40G??
would just then need a power adapter or docking station from the uk then wouldnt i???

yes a lot cheaper. you can use a shaving adapter to work in uk.

I've just come back from the US with a 30gB iPod photo; great bargain but as has been said before don't bother too much trying to find cheaper prices as Apple controls it all (I couldn't find cheaper than $350 ish).
I would add that a firewire lead is useful (if you have firewire on your PC - my Audigy soundcard has it), as it seems PC support for the bundled USB2 lead is flaky in some instances.
I have a shaver outlet in my bathroom which the US power adaptor goes into fine (adaptor is rated 100V - 240V AC, 50-60Hz), otherwise it'll charge via firewire (or USB2).
Upgrading the internal software seems to require an external PSU for it though.

As per the other thread, forget buggering about with shaver sockets, spend a few pence on one of these. Pull off the US 2 prong module and you'll find a socket which you can plug that lead into.
