I'm also heading down that neck of the woods the weekend for a stag party
Not surfing though I did suggest it You'll be okay, modern wetsuits keep you quite warm, wear the wetsuit gloves and boots if you feel the cold. 8.8ft swell is pretty knarly, I'm sure the surf school will know the more sheltered spots to go for. For your first lessons you'll be playing around in the foam anyway and won't be out of your depth. You will be knackered at the end of the day though!
We're going paintballing Saturday and then heading into Newquay for lots of beers

We've been a few times before, but the waves have always been smallish, but 9ft ft !!!! It's the lovely feeling of being trapped in a washing machine I enjoy so much !

Not to put a "dampner" (sorry about the pun) on things, but did you see the wildlife prog last night on BBC? It was dedicated to the memory of a guy who sadly died in a tragic surfing accident.
Be careful out there.
