Default Police driver caught @ 159mph...

Although this is old news, the trial has just started. It will be interesting to see what the outcome is.

What sort of horsepower do you need to reach 160mph? About 300bhp Im sure. Perhaps he will use a similar defence to the import WRX driver: 'it cant go that fast'.....

My 310 HP Scoob wouldnt have done 160... I reckon you need more than that in a Vectra shaped/weight car...

The 159mph record must, in itself, be a good line of defence!

On the clock, maybe. Not a true record.

Police cars are not breathed on, the engines on motorway cars are standard.

They don't tune them where I live it invalidates any warrenty and the speedo's arn't standard there removed and replaced with calibrated ones from I.R.S of Notts. so unless he was being pushed down a steep slope god only knows how he reached that.

He's gotta test the car. I see no report of heavy traffic. Sure if I went out and did it and got busted I'd have no excuse, but the car was being tested for its scum-chasing potential

Vectras don't have ****ty intercoolers with scoops that stop working above 120mph!

Some nice fast dual carriageways round Telford too
If I was still 17 I would happliy brag of the speed that I have "crawled" along there at

There is a slight down hill section, which even I managed to push a standard 1.3 Polo well off the clock.

Good on him i say. While im at it, we should be more like the French and protest against most these shi!tty laws against drivers.

Hope he gets let off, and promoted to a decent role.

Keep us updated Jerome. The guy was doing his job, testing a car, at night, pressumably on an empty road and he considered maxing it out was a reasonable part of the testing. Afterall it would be sensible to know what the car was capable of in the event it was used in pusuit of other quick cars.
I wonder what internal politics are at play here and what sort of fellow officer/supervising officer would insist on bringing this to court.
If the vehicle was on test was the equipment calibrated?

Regardless of the outcome I would think there are some scores to be settled.
All very P.C.

You have hit the nail on the head Harvey, some shiny **** somewhere will have had this brought to Court.

Shouldn't have got there in the first place. How can it possibly be in the Public interest? Do people really want us to potter after stolen motors at 40 shouting "You there! Stop" out of the window or should we actually develop the skills necessary to catch the thieving scum?

I have seen an "indicated" 156mph in my first MY99 Standard scoob, though presume this speed was on VASCAR? There is a very nice stretch on M54 east of Telford, long and straight, no bridges or police lay by in sight and downhill gently going east if i recall, sure someone from area will know it. Will be very intrigued to see how he gets treated, remember copper who run over girl in birmingham recently got fine, points, promotion.

I had an ex police T5 a few year back, about 280bhp.I did an indicated 161mph on an IRS calibrated speedo..Think that extra 5-10mph is probably in the gearing when just running 260-300bhp in any car..

Why all the support for this guy, do you think he or any one of his copper mates would let you off for doing such speeds? They'd make sure you lost your licence for doing far less than that.
If he wanted to test the car he could have done it on a track.

Agreed entirely. You cannot have one rule for us, and another for them.

Either that or I am going to join the traffic police. I'll video you all speeding, stop you, and let you see the video so you can see how to go faster
