"What was that?!?"
"That was the sound of the economy going down the pan under New Labour."
"But, I thought that wasn't supposed to happen until *after* the election."

Actually Gadgetshop's demise was due to internal boardroom struggles. AIUI, it was profitable but the board couldn't agree on what direction to take it in, so they put it into administration!

The chain is not being placed in administration because it is in financial difficulties but because some directors want to sell the business while others are opposed to the move, and placing it in administration now may force a sale.

The Gadget Shop havent gone bust!
They were placed in administration because of internal wranglings, some directors wanted to sell out whilst others opposed it. The company will be back trading again as soon as the available shares have been aquired by a new owner.

Many of their stores are shut, some of the bigger ones are open as usual though, well the one in Tunbridge Wells was last week and thats what the staff told me. I was after one of their rc helicopters on the cheap so was waiting for them to go under

Hardly surprising - the economy has been kept out of recession since 2000 by people spending cheaply borrowed money on a massive scale. Clearly that couldnt continue forever, and now as everyone is busy paying back debt, they have far less money to spend.
Lots of big chains have gone to the wall recenty;
-Gadget Shop
-Alders
-Courts
-Rover
All ties in perfectly with economists preditions that we are heading for a recession along with a house price crash, and fits in with the last 300 years of economic history that the economy generally runs in a series of 14year boom-bust cycles.
Im surprised it was Labour-lover PSLewis who started this thread tho - according to Labour the economy is in GREAT shape!! And "crash" Gordon has re-written economics and ended boom-bust cycles...
