Actually, the accident happened between juntions 18-19, but the cameras are between junctions 14-18, so they could not have had anything to do with it anyway.

Unless people began 'flooring' it after entering the 'safe zone'.

Damn, I can't wait for the first incident to be directly caused by the presence of the 'Safety' Cameras. Can't think it will take more than a few days.

I would have thought that the prescence of cameras was intended to persuade drivers to slow down on ALL motorways - otherwise why would they only have them on a particular stretch...

Unless the agencies KNOW they don't solve the problem and are just trying to rake in money...

4 have sprung up in the couple of miles from me to the A610 in the last couple of weeks, seriously considering a can of black spray paint, a balaclaver and a sledge hammer session

Paint is a quick fix, but at the end of the day they sometimes just clean the lens of the camera. That way people think that the camera is out of actoin when it is working again....rather painful

I have "heard" that a much better way consists of an old tyre and some petrol. The tyre is hung vertically on the camera pole and then petrol poured into the tyre and set alight. I've seen a far few picutres of the results of doing this on the web, and it does seem to be very effective

That'll be why they want to put the price of petrol up then? Anything to protect their revenue stream.
