Updating Tom Tom Go to version 5 question
Sorry for being thick but do I just download the new version straight over the old version or do I need to remove stuff from the card first? Does it all fit?? I'm using the supplied card.

Sal - it will over write the existing stuff - no need to change anything else. Did mine last night and it works fine. You will need to register the maps again though.

Mine overwrote OK once I'd made enough space on the card - too many POIs so junked the unused voices and saved approx 12Mb
Why do you have to re-register the maps - mine works OK after just updating?

Just tried it and it seems ok except that one of the newish bypasses I travel on frequently still isn't on it which I was hoping would be rectified on the new version.
I just did a postcode search on a house I have to go to Friday but it still wanted me to put the road name in, unfortunately the road name isn't in TTG so I can't navigate there using the postcode. In the end I just used the map bit and tapped the screen roughly where I think the house is.

But you have to register your maps against an install of TomTom (and the hardware if PDA). It basically stops piracy, you will probably be asked for your original CD key when you install the software. When you start TTG it will then give you another code which registers the maps, you put that code in to the TomTom website and get another code back. Again, that's the PDA version, but I suspect TTG will be similar. HTH

What a palavar, I've lost my CD case... bloody rare for me as a hoarder and the reciept for the product!! Luckily I bought it from PC World who keep purchace records in store for a year, proof of purchace now faxed over to Amsterdam in order to get a new product code. Big thumbs up to PC World, purchaced anywhere else and I could well have been stuffed.

5.0 is mainly a firmward upgrade. There have been some map editions - there are details on the PocketGPSWorld website. I think you'll find the map version number has changed in the credits screen too.
As regards re-registering the maps, it appears that if you are using the original SD card, then you don't need to re-register. If you've put in a bigger SD card (as I have), then you need to register your maps again.
