Talizaman- Rent it... I would spoil it just by describing it.. I went into it with no expectations, or clue what it was about.
Clare- it did require a fiar bit of attention- gotta admit I sat down for a quick look with SN on in the other room; then before I knew it the film had ended and there was SN still mid post in the other room.
I would say it's not a film for everyone. Very dark, and a bit odd in places.
Defo worth a rent.

(very) basic nutshell:
playboy lives charmed life
treats his conquests badly
meets a really nice girl
conquest gets revenge
playboy's aftermath..
I will say I can pretty much guarantee it wont end how you expect
Here's a good quote by a major film reviewer about the film (courtesy of google)

"Vanilla Sky," like the 2001 pictures "Memento" and "Mulholland Drive" before it, requires the audience to do some heavy lifting. It has one of those plots that doubles back on itself like an Escher staircase. You get along splendidly one step at a time, but when you get to the top floor you find yourself on the bottom landing.

Original is better
Didn't watch it but have seen it before. Like most foreign films though I often find the originals are much better, i.e. 'Abre los ojos' or 'Open your eyes', as parts often get distorted in the translation.
Does anyone else also find that funny French films aren't quite so funny when they're re-shot for the American market..?
Jonts.

I saw Vanilla Sky at the cinema when it first came out and nearly had a punch up in the car park with a bloke who thought it was ****e and told me I must have a drug habit if I thought it was any good. When we got back home "Abre los ojos" was just starting on Channel 4 so I watched that. There's actually very little difference between the two, 99% of the script is literally translated and Tom Cruise makes for a more convincing playboy than the original actor.
Great film, very underrated but does require a lot of concentration.

One of my favourite films ever
have it on dvd- just as well as was at work when it was on lats night
Didnt know it was a remake.
p.s- that wasnt actually a 250 GTO at the beginning- it was a replica based on a datsun 250z (i think thats the right one)

Yum Yum Cameron Diaz will do, or Hermione Norris
Had to watch it three times before I Understood it, must be slow, needed to see the matrix six times before I understood that one!
