Ebay feedback - what's the deal?
A chap was selling a network switch a "3com 4400" - for what would be a normal "seconds" price for the item.
I win auction, and before sending my dolla (as he was not responsive to e-mails) phoned and asked him to double check the model etc. As it turns out the item for sale was the 3com 4400SE - which is a very inferiour product (to the tune of £250).
I leave neutral feedback as product was not as described - and he leaves negative
Can someone explain what's going on?

This might be me being stupid but would it not be better to ask any questions before bidding / slagging the dude off?
[edited to add] If you were in doubt and he hadn't replied to your email, why didn't you ring before the end of the auction. If you were in doubt, why did you bid?

He was not responsive to e-mail.
When bidding was complete - his responce was "I dunno m8 - I'm selling them for a friend". After a few more conversations, finally got through to his friend and found out what the product was.
I would have been happy just to leave is as was if it were not for the fact he left me -ve.
/edit I only found his phone number when completing the auction.
To be fair the 4400 & the 4400SE do look very similar - bit like comparing a Scooby sport (3com 4400SE) with a Scooby STI (3com 4400)
